Selichot

Selichot are recited standing.
It is customary to recite Selichot during Shacharit. When reciting Selichot before Shacharit, or if Tachnun was not said during Shacharit, begin סְלַח לָנוּ; otherwise, see index below.

English
You are God, slow to anger, and are called Master of mercies, and You have taught the way of repentance. Remember today and every day the greatness of Your mercies and Your kindnesses for the seed of Your beloved ones. Turn to us with mercies, for You are the Master of mercies. With supplication and prayer we approach Your presence, as You made known of old to the humble one. Turn back from Your wrath, as it is written in Your Torah. And in the shadow of Your wings we take refuge and lodge, as on the day the Lord descended in the cloud. Pass over transgression and wipe away guilt, as on the day He stood with him there. Hearken to our cry and listen to utterance from us, as on the day He proclaimed the Name of the Lord: And there it is said:

And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed: Lord, Lord, God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in kindness and truth; Preserver of kindness for thousands, Forgiver of iniquity, transgression and sin, and Who cleanses. And You will forgive our iniquity and our sin, and take us for Your inheritance:
Gently strike the left side of your chest (over the heart) with a closed fist at the words חָטָאנוּ and פָּשָׁעְנוּ.
