them, for I, the Lord, your God, am a God Who is zealous to punish those who worship idols, and Who remembers the intentional sins of parents and brings punishment upon their children, up to the third and fourth generation for those who hate Me and continue their parents' sinful behavior. And I am just as zealous to remember and do kindness with those who love Me and keep My commandments, and reward them and their descendants for two thousand generations. Moses conveyed the next eight commandments: You shall not use the name of the Lord, your God, in vain by swearing in God's name falsely or for no compelling reason, for the Lord will not cleanse of sin anyone who uses His name in vain. Remember the Shabbat day throughout the week and prepare for it so that you can make it holy. Six days of the week you shall toil and do all your work, and when the seventh day comes, it should seem to you as if all your work is done. The seventh day shall be a day of rest for the Lord, your God. You shall not do any work—you, your son, your daughter, your servant, your maidservant, your animals, and the convert who lives within your gates, because the Lord made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six days, and He rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Shabbat day and made it holy. Honor your father and your mother so that the days of your life will be lengthened on the land that the Lord, your God, is giving you. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not kidnap. You shall not bear false witness against your fellow. You shall not be jealous and desire your neighbor's house. Neither shall you be jealous and desire your fellow's wife, his servant, his maidservant, his ox, his donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor.

All of the nation could see the sounds and the flames above the mountain, the sound of the shofar and the smoking mountain. The nation saw and they trembled in fright, and so they stood far away. After the people heard the first two commandments they said to Moses, "We fear that if we continue to hear directly from God, we may die. Rather, you speak with us and we will listen, but God should not speak with us directly." Moses said to the nation, "Do not fear, for God has come here in order to raise you up and make you great in the eyes of the other nations, and in order for you to know there is no other but Him and that His awe should be upon you, so that you will not sin." While the nation stood far away, Moses drew near to the thick fog where God's Presence was, so that he could hear His message and relay it to the people. The Lord said to Moses: So you shall say to the Children of Israel, You have seen with your own eyes that I have spoken with you from the heavens and, therefore, you shall know that there is no other power besides the Lord. You shall not make images of anything that serves Me, such as the sun, moon, or stars, nor shall you make for yourselves gods of silver or gold. You shall make for Me an altar on the ground, and you shall slaughter your burnt-offerings and your peace-offerings from your sheep and cattle near the altar and then offer them up on it. In any of the places where I will allow My Explicit Name to be mentioned—the places where the Tabernacle will stand and in the Holy Temple—I will come to you and bless you by resting My Divine Presence upon you. When you will make for Me an altar of stones, you shall not build them of stones that were cut using iron, lest you wave your sword of iron upon it and desecrate it—because the altar was created to prolong life, and iron takes life. You shall not use steps to go up onto My altar, so that you will not need to take big steps and your nakedness will not be exposed upon it. Rather, build a ramp to go up to the altar.

On the Day of the First Fruits, when you bring a flour-offering from the new crop of wheat to the Lord on your Festival of Shavuot, it shall be a holy gathering for you; you shall not do any work. You shall bring the following animals as a burnt-offering to make a pleasing smell for the Lord: two young bulls, one ram, and seven lambs that are less than a year old. As their flour-offering, bring three-tenths of an eifah (approximately 6 kg/13.5 lb) of fine flour mixed with olive oil for each bull, two-tenths of an eifah (approximately 4 kg/9 lb) for the ram, and one-tenth of an eifah (approximately 2 kg/4.5 lb) for each
