The Children of Israel traveled from the city of Rameses in Goshen, to the city of Sukkot, near the Sea of Reeds. The Jews totaled about six hundred thousand men over the age of twenty who traveled on foot, aside from the women and children. Additionally, a great mixed multitude from other nations chose to join the Jewish Nation, and went up with them, as well as an abundance of flock, cattle, and other livestock. As they came to Sukkot, they baked the unleavened dough that they had taken out with them from Egypt into matzot, because it did not become leavened, since there was not enough time for the dough to rise because they were driven out of Egypt in great haste and they could not delay, and they had not prepared any other provisions for themselves to eat during their travels. From the time when God told Abraham that his descendants would be enslaved in Egypt, the total number of years that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and his descendants were living as foreigners in a land not theirs, including the 210 years that they dwelled in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years. And so it was, at the end of four hundred and thirty years, it was on this very day—the fifteenth of Nissan—all of the legions of the Lord, the Jewish Nation, left the land of Egypt. The night of the Exodus was a night that the Lord awaited with great anticipation for the Jews to be ready to be taken out of the land of Egypt and from that night forward, it shall serve as a night of the Lord's protection from all evil for all the Children of Israel, throughout all of their future generations.
