הַדְלָקַת הַמְּנוֹרָה
THE KINDLING OF THE MENORAH
The Chanukah menorah's lights are kindled throughout each of Chanukah's eight nights—a single light on the first night, two on the second night, and so forth.
The first light is to be placed on the right-most branch of the menorah, the second light is to be placed to its left, and so forth.
A distinct shamash (servant light) is employed to kindle the lights of the menorah. One may not make use of a menorah light for any purpose—even for kindling other menorah lights.
According to Chabad custom, the menorah is set upon a chair or similar object, in a doorway, beside the doorpost opposite the mezuzah. The flames ought to stand higher than 3 tefachim (approximately 9 1/2 inches) above the ground, and ideally below 10 tefachim (approximately 31 1/2 inches).
Recite the following blessings before lighting the menorah.
