Commentary

1 The Ba'al Shem Tov explained these words as follows, "If the Divine Presence and its army are standing before Your throne of honor, and the powers of impurity are also standing with their armies like thorns surrounding a spiritual flower, certainly Your honor will give us and Your Divine Presence a favorable judgment and will not allow our enemies to rejoice!"

2 When the Holy Temple was destroyed the Ark was hidden away, but the rock—symbolizing the strength of the Jew to constantly remain connected to God—remained. The Ark (Torah) may be hidden, but the strength of the rock—our essential strength to endure exile—is always revealed …

3 The Holy Temple is called the "Chosen Home," implying that God chose it over other comparable options. Our job is to make our homes holy, turning them into "comparable alternatives" to the Holy Temple, so that we can truly say that God "chose" the Holy Temple.
