We acknowledge and are thankful to You,1 that You, Lord, are our God and the God of our fathers, forever and ever. You are the strength of our life and the shield that protects and saves us in every generation. We will give thanks to You and tell Your praise. We will thank and praise You for our lives, which are completely in Your hand, for our souls, which are kept securely by You, for the miracles that You perform for us every day, and for Your wonders and goodness that are always with us. Three times a day we praise You: in the evening, in the morning, and in the afternoon: Maariv, Shacharit, and Minchah. You are the Good God, because Your mercy never ends. You are the Merciful God, because Your kindness never stops. We pray to You, for we have always put our hopes in You and trusted in You.

We acknowledge and are thankful to You, that You, Lord, are our God and the God of our fathers. You are the God Who rules over all flesh, our Creator, and the Creator of everything that exists. We give blessings and thanks to Your great and holy name, because You have given us life and kept us alive. May You continue to give us life and keep us alive. Gather us from our exile and bring us to the courtyards of Your Holy Temple, so that we will return to serving You—to keep Your laws, to do Your will, and to serve You with a complete heart. We also thank You for letting us give thanks to You for all the good things You do for us. Blessed is God, Who is worthy of thanks.

On Chanukah say the following. If omitted, it is not necessary to return or repeat the Amidah. If one realized that he omitted it before saying יְיָ in the blessing of הַטּוֹב שִׁמְךָ on page 454, he should say it then.

In the days of Mattityahu, the son of Yochanan the High Priest, who was from the Hasmonean family, and his sons—when the wicked Syrian-Greek empire, led by king Antiochus, rose up and took control over Your nation, the Children of Israel, enacting decrees to make the Jewish Nation forget Your Torah and turn them away from the decrees that You want them to keep—You, God, in Your great mercy, stood by the Jewish Nation and helped them in their time of difficulty. You fought their wars, defended their rights, and avenged the wrong done to them. You put the mighty Syrian-Greek army into the hand of the weak Jewish army, and the great Syrian-Greek army was defeated; You put their many soldiers into the hand of our few; You put the impure who fought against You, into the hand of the pure Jewish army; You put the wicked into the hand of the righteous; You put the sinners into the hand of those who occupy themselves with Your Torah. Through these great acts, You made a great and holy name for Yourself in Your world. And for Your nation, the Children of Israel, You brought about a great salvation and redemption; it is spoken about and praised to this very day.
