May God reveal to us the reason for the twelve breads that were on the Golden Table in the Holy Temple. The twelve breads that were arranged in two columns of six, correspond to the letter "י" in God's name, which when the letter's name is spelled out it is doubled—"יוד"—and is shaped like a column, like an extended "י."

צְרוֹרָא דִלְעֵלָא, דְּבֵהּ חַיֵּי כֹּלָּא,
וְיִתְרַבֵּי חֵילָא, וְתִסַּק עַד רֵישָׁא:

Tzerora dil'eila, debeih chayei kolla,

By keeping God's commandments, we will be united with the Supreme One, God, in Whom is the life-source of everything. Our strength will be increased, and the words of our prayers will go up to God and become like a crown on His head.

Torah scholars, who are compared to farmers because they toil to help their surroundings grow, should rejoice on Shabbat with their speech and voice, and they should say words of Torah, which are as sweet as honey.

English

Torah scholars, you will reveal secret words of Torah before God, the Master of the worlds. You will reveal the Torah's secret messages and deliver new teachings on Shabbat.

וְטָמִירָא, וְלָאו מִלְּתָא אוּשָׁא:

English

You will decorate the Shabbat table and give it a beautiful atmosphere by sharing the Torah's precious secrets. You will reveal things that are deep and hidden, things that are not usually revealed.

וְתַמָּן מָאן שַׁרְיָא, הֲלָא הָהוּא

English

These words of Torah that you share on Shabbat will create new skies. And who will live in those skies? None other than God's Divine Presence, which is compared to the sun.

The Divine Presence will increase, expand, and ascend to a higher level of holiness, and it will bring its partner, the Jewish Nation, close because it had separated from it during the week.

MINCHAH FOR SHABBAT AND FESTIVALS

KORBANOT—OFFERINGS

The Minchah prayer corresponds to the daily afternoon burnt-offering that was brought in the Holy Temple. It is therefore customary to say korbanot and ketoret each day before Minchah, pages 41-48. When a festival occurs on a Friday, begin with פְּתַח אֵלִיָּהוּ, page 264.

Concentrate intently the meaning. of the verse פּוֹתֵחַ אֶת יָדֶךָ in the following paragraph. If said without concentration repeat the verse with concentration. For transliteration, see page 942.

Fortunate are those who dwell in Your house; fortunate are those who visit the Holy Temple. They will praise You forever. Fortunate is the nation that such is their lot: fortunate is the nation whose God is the Lord.

The following is a song of praise composed by King David: I will exalt You, my God, the King, and I will bless Your name forever and ever. I will bless You every day, and I will praise Your name forever and ever. However much I praise the Lord, it will never be enough, because He is so great and praised; there is no limit to His greatness. The older generation will praise Your works of creation to the younger generation2 and tell them about Your acts of strength. I, too, will speak about the beauty of the universe You created and the honor it brings You, as well as the wonders and miracles You have done. The older generation will tell the younger generation about the might of Your awesome acts, and I will speak about Your greatness.
