שִׁיר The following is a song that was composed to be sung on the steps of the Holy Temple. I lift my eyes to the mountains, and I ask: Where will my help come from? festivals. The fact that so many people were able to fit comfortably in Jerusalem is evidence for the Children of Israel that God’s Divine Presence rests there. This is something for which to give thanks to the Lord’s name. The Divine Presence rested in Jerusalem, because the seats of justice—where the highest court would sit—were there, as well as the thrones of the House of David, where the Jewish kings—the royal descendants of King David—would sit. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Jerusalem—may those who love you have peace. Jerusalem, may there be peace within your walls and calmness within your mansions.
