for the Lord Who was with us to help us when men rose up against us to destroy us, then they would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger against us. Then we would have been defeated like waters washing us away. Like a strong river, they would have swept over our soul. Indeed, the raging waters would have then rushed over our soul. Blessed is the Lord, Who did not let us become like food for our enemies, prey for their teeth. Our soul is like a bird that has escaped from the bird-hunter's trap. The trap broke. Our enemies were defeated and we escaped from them. Our help does not come from ourselves; it comes from the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

הַלְלוּיָהּ Praise the Lord. Praise the name of the Lord. Give praise, Kohanim—servants of the Lord—who stand in the House of the Lord,1 the Temple, and the rest of the Children of Israel, who pray in the courtyards of the House of our God—the courtyards of the Temple. Praise God because I know that the Lord is great. God, our Master, is greater than all the angels in heaven. Angels can do only what God tells them to do, but the Lord has done everything that He has wanted—in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all the depths of the oceans. He causes mists to rise from the earth, from where the edge of the land meets the ocean. These mists become clouds in the sky, which bring rain. He makes lightning storms to provide rain, and He brings out the wind from His storage places.

It was God Who struck the firstborns of Egypt—the human and the animal firstborns. He sent other plagues as signs and wonders into the midst of Egypt, upon Pharaoh and upon all his servants. It was He Who struck many nations and killed mighty kings: Sichon, king of the Emorites, Og, king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms in the land of Canaan. He gave their lands as an inheritance, an inheritance for His people, the Children of Israel.

Lord, Your name is everlasting. You are as mighty now as You were when You killed those kings. Lord, Your name is remembered forever, throughout all generations. There will be a time when the Lord will judge the nations of the world on behalf of His people, the Jewish Nation, and He will have compassion on His servants, the Jewish Nation.

The idols that the nations of the world worship are made of silver and gold; they are made by human hands. They have a mouth, but cannot speak; they have eyes, but cannot see; they have ears, but cannot hear. There isn't even any breath in their mouths, as they cannot breathe. Those who make idols and all those who trust in them will become like them—unable to speak, see, hear, or breathe.
