of Israel, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, wandered from one nation to another. Even within the land of Canaan itself, they went from one kingdom to another, but God didn’t let anyone mistreat them. God rebuked kings, including Pharaoh and Abimelech, because these kings tried to hurt them. God warned these kings, “Don’t touch My anointed, great nation—the Jewish Nation, and don’t do anything bad to My prophets, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

English

Everyone on earth, sing to the Lord.1 Speak every day about His salvation. Tell the nations of the world about His glory. Tell all the nations of the world about His wonders. Tell them this because the Lord is great and very worthy to be praised; and He is fearsome above all the false gods of the other nations. Because all the false gods of the other nations are nothing—they are powerless, but the Lord has real power; He made the heaven and the earth and everything in them.

There is honor and beauty in God’s presence.2 There is strength and joy in the place where He is. Families—people—of the nations should give to the Lord; they should give honor and strength to the Lord. Give the Lord the honor that His name deserves. Bring an offering3 for God and come before Him to the Holy Temple. Bow down to the Lord in the Holy Temple, from where His beautiful holiness emanates. All the nations of the earth should tremble before God with fear. God made the world a secure place; it will never falter because He will always support it. When the Redemption arrives, the heavens will be happy and the earth will rejoice,4 and all the nations of the world will say, “The Lord has always been King of the universe.” The sea and everything in it will roar with joy; the fields and everything in them will rejoice. Then the joy in the world will be so great that even the trees in the forest will sing before the Lord when He comes to judge the people on earth and give them what they deserve. Give praise to the Lord because He is good, because His kindness lasts forever. Say to God, “Save us, God of our salvation. Gather us together and save us from the other nations, so that we can give thanks to Your holy name and be glorified by praising You.” When we praise You, we become glorious, because other nations see that we are Your nation. We should praise God by saying, “The Lord, God of the Children of Israel, is blessed forever, from this world to the next world.” All the people said, “Amen,” showing that they agree with everything that was just said, and they praised the Lord.

God is merciful and forgives our sins; He does not destroy us because of them. Many times He turns His anger away from us, and He does not stir up all of His anger. May You, the Lord, not withhold Your mercy from me. Your kindness and Your truth will always protect

Commentary

1 Singing and praising God helps us realize His Divine Providence in our everyday lives. This leads us to “speak about His wonders.”

2 “Honor and beauty” is a reference to the songs of praise that are sung before God by angels in heaven. These angels are in a constant state of nullification and humility “before Him,” and their songs make God happy. They give God “strength and joy in the place where He is.”

3 Literally, “raise.” When a physical, mundane offering (such as flour) was brought to God in the Temple, it became “raised” and transformed into something holy. Indeed, any item used for holy purposes becomes elevated.

4 After proclaiming that “the heavens will rejoice,” it seems unnecessary to mention the joy of our lowly “earth.” However, the joy of the earth has an advantage in that it is a result of much hard work, making it more cherished.
