Visible layers

From Rosh Hashanah through Yom Kippur, say הַמֶּלֶךְ הַקָּדוֹשׁ instead of הָאֵל הַקָּדוֹשׁ. If an error was made, the Amidah must be repeated.

You and Your name are holy

English

Our Father in Heaven, return us to diligent study of Your Torah. Our King, bring us closer to Your service—fulfilling Your commandments, and return us before You by helping us achieve complete and sincere repentance. Blessed are You, Lord, Who wants people's sincere repentance.

On days when Tachanun is said (see page 108 for days when it is not said), tap the left side of your chest with your right fist at the words חָטָאנוּ and פָשָׁעְנוּ. This shows regret for having followed any desires of the heart that may have led to sin.

Please look at our suffering and fight our battles. Redeem us quickly from exile for the sake of Your name—so that everyone will recognize that You care for Your people—because You are a God Who is a strong redeemer. Blessed are You, Lord, the redeemer of the Children of Israel.

On a public fast day, the chazzan adds the following during his repetition of the Amidah. If omitted, it is not necessary to repeat the Amidah.

Answer us, Lord. Please answer us on our fast day, because we are in a time of great difficulty. Do not turn to look at our wickedness and our sins; do not hide Your face from us, and do not ignore our requests. Please come close to us, and listen to our cries, and please give us Your kindness so that we will be comforted. Answer us even before we call out to You, as it is said in Isaiah: And it will be that even before they will call out to Me, I will answer them; while they are still saying words of prayer, I will listen to them and help them.
