ERUV TECHUMIN

On Shabbat and festivals, walking more than 2000 cubits (slightly more than 3000 ft.) outside the city is a rabbinic prohibition. Whoever needs to go further than this may fix his “residence” outside the city by setting food sufficient for two meals within 2000 cubits of the city limits, ahead of Shabbat or the festival. One may then proceed 2000 cubits from that point in any direction one desires. See Laws, page 607.
Once the food has been placed in the designated place, recite the following:
Chabad
boruch atoh Adonoy Eloyheinu melech ho-oylom, asher
kid'shonu* b'mitzvoysov, v'tzivonu al mitzvas eiruv:
When an eruv is made for the public, insert [after “for us”] “for so-and-so” or “for the people of ....”
Chabad
b'din y'hei shorei lono leilach mimokoym zeh alpayim
amoh l'chol ruach:
Eruv Techumin operates only for one who is aware that an eruv has been made. Hence, before Shabbat, the concerned parties must be informed that an eruv has been made for them.
When planning an Eruv Techumin, a rabbi should be consulted.
