The LORD spoke to Moses, saying: When a bullock or lamb or goat is born, it shall remain with its mother for seven days; from the eighth day onwards it will be accepted as a sacrifice, a fire-offering to the LORD. Whether a bullock or a sheep, you may not slaughter the animal and its offspring on the same day. If you bring an offering of thanksgiving to God, offer it so that it will be accepted from you. It must be eaten on that very day; let none of it remain until morning; I am the LORD. Safeguard My commandments and perform them; I am the LORD. Do not profane My holy name; I shall be sanctified among the children of Israel; I am the LORD who sanctifies you, who has taken you out of the land of Egypt to be your God: I am the LORD.

These are the appointed times of the LORD, sacred assemblies, which you shall announce in their due seasons: In the first month, on the fourteenth of that month, in the afternoon, the Pesaḥ [offering shall be brought] to the LORD. And the fifteenth day of that month will be the festival of Matzot to the LORD; for seven days you shall eat matzot. On the first day there will be a sacred assembly; you shall do no laborious work. And you shall bring an offering consumed by fire to the LORD on each of the seven days; on the seventh day there shall be a sacred assembly: you shall do no laborious work.
