Strengthen us by the righteousness of Moses, drawn from water, and atone our crimes, wanton or foolish. Free us from the terror of death that thrusts us back, rule for our salvation; do not let us melt away in our sins. Answer us as You answered Jonah in the belly of the fish — We have sinned, our Rock; forgive us, our Creator.

Remember Your devoted Aaron’s sanctity, for the sake of Israel of the pleasing steps. Awaken Your compassion, for we are doubly stricken. Return us resolutely to our awe of You, do not expose us. Answer us as You answered David, and Solomon his son in Jerusalem — We have sinned, our Rock; forgive us, our Creator.
On the Fast of Esther add:

Answer those who call You; listen out from Your residence. Hear the cry of those who call out to You, You who listen to the destitute. Have compassion for Your children, as a father has for his. Answer us as You answered Mordekhai and Esther: and on a fifty-cubit gallows they hanged father and sons — We have sinned, our Rock. Forgive us, our Creator.

Deal kindly with us as You have promised, “Even so, when they are in the land of their enemies I shall not reject them and shall not detest them to the point of destruction, to the point of breaking My covenant with them, for I am the LORD their God.” Restore our fortunes, and have compassion for us as is written, “And the LORD your God shall restore your fortunes and have compassion for you, and shall return and gather you in from all the nations
