English
to give the Land of Israel to the tribes, for the words of this oath are everlasting. When the Jews were in the desert, You split the earth and turned it into rivers so that they would not die of thirst in the desert and would enter the Land of Israel. When the Canaanite kings, who felt as strong as mountains, saw the great miracles that You performed for the Jewish Nation, they trembled and fell. The flow of water of the Jordan River passed and stopped so that the Jewish Nation could cross over, and from the depths, the water gave forth its voice in praise to God. The river stood up like a pillar as if the depths were raising their hands up toward the sky. During one of the battles that Joshua fought against Canaanite kings, the sun and moon stood still in their heavenly dwellings until the battle ended. When the Jews were fleeing the Egyptians who were right behind them, they walked by the light of Your arrows and the brightness of the flashing of Your spear—the lightning and hail that You rained down upon the Egyptians. With fury You tread on those inhabiting the Land of Israel, and with wrath You trampled the seven nations occupying Canaan. You went forth to rescue Your people, to rescue Your anointed ones. You crushed the rulers of the house of the wicked, uncovering it from the foundation to the neck—You destroyed them forever. When Sancheiriv, king of Ashur, came to attack the Jews, You pierced the heads of his warriors with their own staffs, which they had tried to use to scatter me like a storm. They would rejoice had they been successful to secretly devour the poor Jewish Nation, just as the Egyptians intended to do. You trampled the Egyptians at sea with Your horses—Your clouds of Glory; the abundant waters of the sea were as heaps. Just as the Egyptians' pursuit of the Jews ended badly for them, so too, Sancheiriv's pursuit of the Jews ended badly for him. When the Babylonians heard of what happened to the Egyptians, they said: I heard and my innards trembled; my lips quivered at the sound of it. Decay entered my bones, and I trembled in my place, for although now, I am at rest, thinking of my day of trouble, when God will bring up His nation as troops from my land scares me. For on the day that Babylon will fall, fig trees will no longer blossom in their land, nor will the vines produce. The work put into the olive tree will fail, and the field will not yield food. The flock will be cut off from its enclosure, and there will be no cattle in the stalls. On that day, the Jewish Nation will say: I will rejoice in the Lord; I will express joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord, my Master, is my strength. He made my feet as swift as the deer, and He will lead me to my high places—to the city of Jerusalem, where this song of praise will be for the choirmaster of the Holy Temple, the tribe of Levi, to play in my tune.
