The prophet Ezekiel said: The hand of the Lord—the spirit of prophecy—came upon me, and by the will of the Lord, took me out from my place and placed me down within the valley. The valley was full of bones from the people of the tribe of Efraim who decided to leave Egypt thirty years before they were destined to leave, and were killed by the Philistines. He made me pass by them—circling around them—and behold, there were many bones on the surface of the valley and the bones were very dry. The Lord said to me: Son of man, do you think these bones can come alive? And I responded, "They can come to life if that is Your will, but Lord, God, only You know if that is indeed Your will." He said to me: Prophesy regarding these bones, and say to them, "Dried up bones, hear the word of the Lord. So says the Lord, God, to these bones: Behold, I will bring the spirit of life into you, and you shall live again! I will place tendons upon you; then I will place flesh over you and cover you with skin. I will put the breath of life into you and you will live, and you will then know that I am the Lord." I prophesied as I was commanded. As I was prophesying, there was a sound; behold, a commotion—the bones came together, each bone attaching to its adjoining bone! And I saw, behold they had tendons upon them, and flesh came up, and skin covered them above the flesh, but the spirit of life was not yet in them. Then the Lord said to me: Prophesy regarding the spirit of life; prophesy, son of man, and say to the spirit, "So says the Lord, God: Spirit of life, come from all four directions and breathe into these murdered bodies, and they will live." I prophesied as I had been commanded;
