completely cleanses us from our sins when we repent, but He does not cleanse us if we don't repent. He remembers the sins of parents and, if they continue in their parents' ways, punishes their children and children's children to the third and fourth generations for their sins as well. As Moses saw the Divine Presence was about to leave, he hurried, bowed his head toward the ground, prostrated himself, and said: If I have now found favor in Your eyes, my Lord, then please may the Divine Presence of my Lord go in our midst as we journey, since You have forgiven us. And if because they are a stiff necked people they will sin before You again, may You forgive our intentional and unintentional sins, and secure us as Your everlasting nation and portion. God agreed and said: I will enter a covenant to this: In the presence of all your people, I will make distinctions such as have never been created upon all the earth and among all the nations—the Divine Presence will dwell only among the Jewish Nation. All the people in whose midst you dwell shall see the work of the Lord—for it is awesome—that which I will now be doing for you.

Fulfill the following commandments that I am commanding you today: behold, when you will enter the Land of Israel, I will drive out from before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivvites, and the Jebusites, while the seventh nation, the Girgashites, will leave the land of their own accord. When this happens, watch yourselves, lest you enter a covenant with the occupants of the land into which you are coming. Do not allow them to remain there, lest it be a dangerous trap in your midst, because the people of these nations will ensnare you to abandon the ways of God. Rather, you must demolish their altars, break their monuments, and cut down the trees that they worship. For you shall not bow down before any other god, because the Lord, Who has a name as "the zealous One," is a zealous God to exact payment from those who betray Him. I command you not to enter a covenant with the occupants of the land to allow them to remain, for they will continue to stray after their gods and to offer sacrifices to their gods, and they will call out invitations to you to befriend and join them. Eventually, you will come to eat of their idolatrous sacrifice, until you will eventually take their daughters as wives for your sons. These daughters will stray after their gods and they will also lead your sons astray after their gods. As a further prevention from idolatry, do not make any molded or shaped idols for yourself, even if you do not intend to worship them.

You shall keep the Festival of Matzot; seven days you shall eat only unleavened foods and matzot, as I commanded you to do at the set time of the month when the grain begins to ripen—the 15th of Nissan. This festival shall always be in the spring season, because it was in the month of Nissan, during the spring season that you went out of Egypt. When God killed all the firstborn sons and all the firstborn male animals of the Egyptians, He passed over the Jewish homes and saved the firstborn of the Jewish Nation. Therefore, God commands you: Every firstborn son who is the first to open the womb of his mother shall be Mine, and you must redeem him from a Kohen when he is thirty days old. Also whenever any of your livestock, whether of an ox or a sheep shall give birth to a male, if this offspring was the first to open its mother's womb, it shall also be Mine, and must be given to a Kohen. Among non-kosher animals, you shall redeem the male firstborn donkey by exchanging it for a lamb, which you will give to the Kohen; if you do not redeem it, you shall decapitate it, causing you financial loss—just as you wished to cause financial loss to the Kohen. Every son of yours who is a firstborn to his mother, you shall redeem from any Kohen for five shekels (about 100 grams of pure silver). When the Jewish Nation will come up to the Holy Temple to celebrate the festivals, they shall not appear before Me empty handed; rather, they shall bring an animal as a burnt-offering. Six days you shall work, and on the seventh day you shall rest by not doing any work. You shall rest from plowing and from harvesting. And you shall make for yourself a Festival of Weeks (Shavuot), during which you shall bring the two loaves of bread, which is the first offering that is brought from the new wheat harvest in the Holy Temple. You shall also observe the Festival of the Gathering of your crop (Sukkot), which takes place at the time when the new year begins (Tishrei). Three times a year during the aforementioned festivals of Pesach, Shavuot, and Sukkot, all your males shall appear before the Master of the universe, the Lord, Who is the God of Israel, by coming to the holy Temple in Jerusalem. For I will drive out all nations from before you and widen your borders in the Land of Israel, which will cause many of you to live far from the Holy Temple. No man of the other nations will desire your land and scheme to obtain it when you go up to appear before the Lord, your God, these three times of the year. Therefore, you can go to the Holy Temple without worry. You shall not slaughter or sprinkle the blood of My Pesach-offering while you still have chametz (leaven) in your possession. The Pesach-offering shall be brought on the fourteenth of Nissan, and its parts that are burned on the altar may not remain off of the altar overnight, until the morning of the fifteenth. Of the seven species of produce with which your Land of Israel was blessed—wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates—you shall bring some of the first that begin to ripen to the house of the Lord, your God, as a gift to the Kohanim. You may not cook a young goat in its mother's milk, nor any meat in any milk, nor may you eat from any such mixture.
