CLOSE OF SHABBAT AND FESTIVALS
Havdalah is recited at the close of Shabbat and festivals (even if the festival is followed by Chol Hamoed). When a festival falls on Saturday night, Havdalah is recited during the festival Kiddush, page 556.
When reciting Havdalah after a festival that falls on a weekday, the blessings over the spices and the flame are omitted.
The cup is poured full until it overflows, so as to open the week with a symbol of God's overflowing blessings.
Rise and hold the cup in the right hand while reciting Havdalah. See illustration, page 956. Those listening should answer אָמֵן as shown.

On Chol Hamoed Sukkot, when reciting Havdalah in the sukkah, add the following blessing.
Look at the s'chach (the sukkah covering) while reciting the words לֵישֵׁב בַּסֻּכָּה.

Drink no less than 3.5 oz. from the cup. Quench the flame using the remaining wine to show that the flame was kindled for no purpose other than Havdalah.
