English

the sea piled up, the flowing streams of water stood straight like a wall, and the deep waters became hard in the heart of the sea. When the Jewish Nation left Egypt, their enemy, Pharaoh, said to the Egyptian army, "I will chase them, I will catch up to them, and I will divide the possessions that I take from them and distribute them. I will fulfill my heart's desire by bringing them back to Egypt. I will take out my sword from its case, and I will destroy them with my hand." But when Pharaoh and the Egyptians tried to destroy the Jewish Nation, You blew with Your wind and the sea covered them. They sank quickly like heavy lead in the powerful waters.

Who from among all the great and powerful creations is like You, Lord?1 Who is like You, God? You are adorned with holiness. The wonders that You do are so awesome that they cannot be sufficiently praised. You stretched out Your right hand and the earth swallowed the Egyptians. With Your kindness, You led this nation that You redeemed. You gave the Jewish Nation a pillar of fire and clouds to lead them through the desert. You guided us with Your strength to the Holy Temple, Your holy home. The nations heard about Your great strength and trembled with fear. A great fear took hold of the people who lived in the land of Philistia. At that time, the leaders of Edom were panicked, and the mighty men of Moab were gripped by trembling, afraid that God would punish them for complaining about the honor the Jewish Nation

When Pharaoh's horses, with his chariots and horsemen, went into the sea, the Lord turned the waters of the sea back onto them and they drowned. At the same time, the Children of Israel walked on dry land through the sea.

The power to rule as king belongs to the Lord. God rules over the nations even if they don't want Him as their King. When the Redemption arrives, our saviors—the Jewish leaders—will go up to Mount Zion in Jerusalem to judge the people of the mountain of Esau—the non-Jews—for everything they have done to us during exile. All the nations will then recognize that the power to rule as king belongs only to the Lord. The Lord will be King over the entire earth. On that day, when the Redemption arrives, the Lord will be One, and His name will be One.

נִשְׁמַת The Lord, our God, the soul of every living thing will bless Your name. God, our King, the spirit of all flesh will always glorify and exalt Your remembrance. Commentary

1 Alternatively, "the powerful" refers to God's various names. In this verse we are asking God, "Which of Your names are as great as י-ה-ו-ה?" (This is the highest name of God. It appears in the original (Torah) version of this verse; in this siddur, it is represented by the letters יְיָ.) …

2 Edom and Moab were especially upset about the glory the Jewish Nation was receiving, because they felt that as relatives of Abraham they deserved glory too. However, the descendants of Ishmael, who were also related to Abraham, were not upset. Ishmael had repented in his later years and shown respect to Isaac. Because of this, his descendants recognized that glory rightfully belonged to Isaac's descendants.

3 Whereas the previous verse speaks in past tense, this verse is in future tense. The previous verse describes the fear that other nations felt during the splitting of the sea, whereas this verse is a request to God by the Jewish Nation—that this fear should remain upon the nations until they enter the Land of Israel.

Whereas the Jewish Nation feared God at all times, with sincerity, the Egyptians only feared God when they were subject to His wrath. For this reason, the verse says that their fear "fell upon them"—it came from an outside source, and it wasn't genuinely heartfelt.
