On Chanukah and Purim, say the following. If omitted, it is not necessary to return or repeat the Amidah. If one realized that he omitted it before saying יי in the blessing of הַטּוֹב שִׁמְךָ, on the next page he should say it then.

In the days of Matityahu, the son of Yochanan the High Priest, who was from the Hasmonean family, and his sons—when the wicked Syrian-Greek empire, led by king Antiochus, rose up and took control over Your nation, the Children of Israel, enacting decrees to make the Jewish Nation forget Your Torah and turn them away from the decrees1 that You want them to keep—You, God, in Your great mercy, stood by the Jewish Nation and helped them in their time of difficulty. You fought their wars, defended their rights, and avenged the wrong done to them. You put the mighty Syrian-Greek army into the hand of the weak Jewish army, and the great Syrian-Greek army was defeated; You put their many soldiers into the hand of our few; You put the impure who fought against You, into the hand of the pure Jewish army; You put the wicked into the hand of the righteous; You put the sinners into the hand of those who occupy themselves with Your Torah.2 Through these great acts, You made a great and holy name for Yourself in Your world. And for Your nation, the Children of Israel, You brought about a great salvation and redemption; it is spoken about and praised to this very day. After they won the war, Your children, the Jewish Nation, entered the Holy Temple, cleaned out the idols that the Syrian-Greeks had put in Your Sanctuary, and purified Your Holy Temple. They lit candles of celebration in and around the courtyards of Your Holy Temple,3 and they instituted these eight days of Chanukah to give thanks and praise to Your great name.

In the days of Mordechai and Esther, in Shushan, the capital of Persia—when the wicked Haman rose up against them, and wanted to destroy, kill, and wipe out all the Jews—young and old, children and women—in one day, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, and to take their money and possessions—You, God, in Your great mercy, canceled Haman's ideas and wrecked his plans. You caused his evil plans to return on his own head—they hanged Haman and his sons on the gallows.

And because of all these things You do for us, God, our King, may Your name always be blessed, exalted, and raised forever and ever.

From Rosh Hashanah through Yom Kippur, add the following. If omitted, it is not necessary to return or repeat the Amidah. During the chazzan's repetition of the Amidah, the congregation says this line first, followed by the chazzan.

Decree a good year for us

English

Write down for a good life all of the Children of Israel, the nation that accepted Your Covenant—the Torah and its commandments.

Bend knees at בָּרוּךְ; bow at אַתָּה; straighten up at יי.
