My soul should bless the Lord. Lord, my God, You are very great. From Your beautiful creations, I see how glorious and beautiful You are, just as a king is recognized by the royal clothes he wears. God wraps Himself with light, just as clothing covers a person’s body. He stretches the heaven over the earth to cover it, as a person spreads a curtain in front of a window. He covers His skies with water droplets; He makes clouds and controls them as if they are His chariot. He moves the clouds as if they are riding on wings made of wind. God makes the winds His messengers, and He makes the fire-flashes of lightning His servants. God creates nature and uses it as His messenger.

God set up the earth on its foundations, so that it will never falter and be destroyed. Before God finished creating the universe, the depths of the water covered the earth, as clothing covers a person. Water stood over the mountains, covering them. The water on the earth quickly moved away when You forcefully commanded them to on the third day of Creation. The sound of Your thunder caused the waters to rush away and move to their right place, so there could be dry land on the earth. You caused the waters to climb up the mountains, and from there they flowed down into the valleys, to the place that You have set up for them. You put sand as a boundary the oceans should not cross, so they should not return to cover the land as they did during the creation of the universe. God sends springs that put water into rivers so they won’t dry up. The rivers are then able to flow between mountains. All the animals of the field drink from these waters. The wild animals quench their thirst by drinking these waters. The birds of the sky stay by the rivers; they raise their voices to praise God from among the leaves of the trees. God gives water to the mountains from His clouds above. The earth is satisfied from the fruit of Your works, from the rain that You cause to fall.

God makes grass grow for animals to eat and grows produce that need the work of man. We work to bring forth grain from the earth in order to make bread. God also provides us with wine, which makes man’s heart happy; oil, which makes a person’s face shine; and bread, which keeps a person’s heart satisfied. The Lord’s trees drink water until they are satisfied. The cedar trees of Lebanon are God’s; they are the trees that He planted. There, in those trees, birds build their nests. The stork has its home in the cypress tree. God created the high mountains as a home for wild goats and rocks as a shelter for rabbits. God made the moon in order for us to know when the festivals will occur. The sun knows the path it is supposed to travel, and never veers from it. God, You bring darkness at the end of each day and it becomes night. That is when all the animals of the forest creep out, because there are no people around to disturb them at that time. The young lions roar in hunger, looking for food to eat; they ask God for their food. When the sun rises, they return and lie down in their dens. When the new day begins, man goes out to his job, to his work until evening.<sup>2</sup>

Lord, how many are the works of Your hands; You made them all with wisdom.<sup>3</sup> The earth is full of Your possessions, because everything in the world belongs to You. God, You created this enormous and wide sea, where there are countless creeping creatures, and living things, small and big. Ships travel there, and You created the Leviathan that frolics in it. All creations look hopefully to You, hoping for You to give them their food at the proper time. Sometimes You give it to them indirectly, and they need to gather it from different places. But sometimes You open Your hand and give them all of their food directly, and then they are easily satisfied with goodness. When You hide Your face from Your creations and don’t give them food, they are terrified. When You take back their soul, they die and return to dust, from which animals and the first man, Adam, were created. In the future, when You send Your spirit into the world at the time of the Resurrection of the Dead, those who died will be created again. You will renew the face of the earth by putting more people on it.

The Lord’s glory will last forever.<sup>4</sup> The Lord will always be satisfied with what He has done; He will be happy with His works of creation. God looks at the earth and it trembles in fear. God touches the mountains, and they burn; they give off smoke. I will sing to the Lord with my soul; I will sing to my God for as long as I exist. May my prayer be pleasant to Him. I will be happy because the Lord is my God. May people no longer follow their evil inclination, and then those who sin will be gone from the earth. Evil people will no longer exist, because everyone will act properly. My soul should bless the Lord. Praise the Lord.
