English

The strangers (non-Jews) say that there is no hope,1 and that we should not expect You to help us. Be gracious to the Jewish Nation, the nation that puts its hope in Your name. Pure God, bring our salvation near to us because we are exhausted by the pain and suffering of exile, and we were not given any rest. Let Your mercy suppress Your anger from us. Please God, turn away from Your anger and have mercy on the Jewish Nation, the treasured people, whom You chose as Your nation.

Lord, have pity on us with Your mercy, and do not put us into the hands of cruel people. Why should the nations be able to say about the Jewish Nation, “Where is their God? Why does He not help them?” Act kindly toward us for Your sake, so that everyone should see that You are a kind God. Do not delay. Please God, turn away from Your anger and have mercy on the Jewish Nation, the treasured people, whom You chose as Your nation.

Hear our voice and be gracious toward us. Do not abandon us in the hands of our enemies, who want to erase our name and destroy us. Remember what You promised to our fathers: I will multiply your descendants; you will have so many descendants that it will be impossible to count them, just as it is impossible to count the stars in the heavens. But now, after all the troubles we have gone through, we are left with only a few of the many people we used to have. Nevertheless, we have not forgotten Your name, and we still trust in You and pray to You. Please God, do not forget us.
