As you pray, fix your mind on what the words mean. Keep in mind that you are stationed before the Divine Presence. Banish every distracting thought, so the mind stays fixed on prayer. Prior to starting the Amidah, step three paces backward, then three paces forward. Say the Amidah in a low voice—yet audibly—standing, feet joined. From here through the Amidah's close on page 326, no interruption of any kind is permitted.

In the winter season (from Shemini Atzeret's Musaf to Shacharit of Pesach's first day), say מַשִּׁיב הָרוּחַ וּמוֹרִיד הַגֶּשֶׁם. In the summer season (from Musaf on Pesach's first day through Shemini Atzeret's Shacharit), say מוֹרִיד הַטָּל. Should one, by mistake, have said מַשִּׁיב הָרוּחַ וּמוֹרִיד הַגֶּשֶׁם in the summer season, a correction is required, and one may need to repeat the Amidah (further laws may be found on page 589). If, however, one said מוֹרִיד הַטָּל by mistake in the winter season, going back to correct it is not required.
