How to read the transliterations

THE AMIDAH

While at prayer, attend to the meaning of the words. Bear in mind that you stand before the Divine Presence. Dismiss any distracting thoughts, that the mind may stay fixed upon prayer. Before you begin the Amidah, step back three paces, then step forward three. Recite the Amidah quietly—but audibly—standing with feet joined. Through the whole Amidah, ending on page 112, interruptions of any kind are forbidden. Consult additional laws on page 589.

In winter (from Shemini Atzeret's Musaf to Shacharit of Pesach's first day), say מַשִּׁיב הָרוּחַ וּמוֹרִיד הַגֶּשֶׁם. In summer (from Musaf of Pesach's first day through Shacharit of Shemini Atzeret), say מוֹרִיד הַטָּל. Should one, in error, say מַשִּׁיב הָרוּחַ וּמוֹרִיד הַגֶּשֶׁם in summer, it must be corrected, and repeating the Amidah may be required (for additional laws, see page 589).
