Reader

Israeli: ' marks a reduced vowel that Israeli speech drops (b'rachah); when the vowel is pronounced it is written e (lefanecha). - separates syllables that would otherwise run together.

How to read the transliterations
See page 181–182 for a transliteration of Ashrei.

A HYMN OF PRAISE, OF DAVID

Psalm 145

English
I lift You high, my God, my sovereign; I bless Your name, always. Each day I praise You, extolling Your name, always. Great is Adonai, worthy of abundant praise, though Your greatness cannot be fathomed. One generation lauds Your works to the next, recounting Your mighty deeds. I would declare Your majestic splendor and Your wondrous acts. Ages tell of Your awe-inspiring deeds; I also shall tell of Your greatness. They tell of Your abundant goodness, and hymn Your righteousness. Adonai is merciful and compassionate, slow to anger, and abounding in love. Adonai is good to all, and God’s compassion enfolds all of creation. All creation confesses You, and the faithful bless You. They tell of the splendor of Your reign and speak of Your might, declaring to humanity Your mighty deeds, and the splendor of Your majestic reign. Your reign is everlasting; Your dominion lasts in every generation. Adonai upholds all who stumble, and raises all who are bent down. The eyes of all wait in hope upon You, and You give them food in its proper time. You open Your hand, and fill with contentment all that lives. Adonai is just in all that is done, faithful toward all creation. Adonai is close to all who call, to all who call in truth. God grants the wish of those who are faithful, hearing their cries, delivering them. Adonai guards all who love the Holy One, yet will bring ruin on all the wicked. My mouth shall speak praise of Adonai. May all that is mortal bless God’s name forever and ever.
