Rabbi Yohanan said: Wherever you find the greatness of the Holy One, blessed be He, there you find His humility. This is written in the Torah, repeated in the Prophets, and stated a third time in the Writings. It is written in the Torah: “For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty and awe-inspiring God, who shows no favoritism and accepts no bribe.” Immediately afterwards it is written, “He upholds the cause of the orphan and widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.” It is repeated in the Prophets, as it says: “So says the High and Exalted One, who lives for ever and whose name is Holy: I live in a high and holy place, but also with the contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.” It is stated a third time in the Writings: “Sing to God, make music for His name, extol Him who rides the clouds – the LORD is His name – and exult before Him.” Immediately afterwards it is written: “Father of the orphans and Justice of widows, is God in His holy habitation.”

May the LORD our God be with us, as He was with our ancestors. May He never abandon us or forsake us. You who cleave to the LORD your God are all alive this day. For the LORD will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her ruins; He will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like a garden of the LORD. Joy and gladness will be found there, thanksgiving and the sound of singing. It pleased the LORD for the sake of [Israel’s] righteousness to make the Torah great and glorious.

A song of ascents. Happy are all who fear the LORD, who walk in His ways. When you eat the fruit of your labor, happy and fortunate are you. Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons like olive saplings around your table. So shall the man who fears the LORD be blessed. May the LORD bless you from Zion; may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life; and may you live to see your children’s children. Peace be on Israel!
