twenty-two thousand heads of cattle and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep; and thus did the king and all the people of Israel dedicate the House of the LORD. On that day, the king consecrated the center of the Courtyard before the House of the LORD, for there he prepared the burnt-offering, the meal-offering and fats of the peace-offerings; for the Brass Altar that stood before the LORD was too small to contain all the burnt-offerings and the meal-offerings and the fat of the peace-offerings. It was then that Solomon celebrated the Festival, and all of Israel his people with him, a vast congregation from all the land, from the border of Ḥamat to the river of Egypt, before the LORD our God for seven days and for seven days more, fourteen days all told. And then, on the eighth day, Solomon sent the people on their way, and they blessed the king, going back to their tents happy and buoyant of heart over all the goodness that the LORD had performed for His servant, David, and for His people, Israel. And so it was, when Solomon had finished building the House of the LORD and the palace of the king, all of Solomon's heart's desire, all that he had wished to do.

TORAH READING FOR SIMḤAT TORAH

In Israel, if Simḥat Torah falls on Shabbat, the first three verses of the reading for the Ḥatan Torah (page 1216a), from "Your sanctuary" through "their high places," are read for Shishi.
Deut. 33:1-26

This is the blessing with which Moses, the man of God, blessed the children of Israel before he died. Moses said: "The LORD came to them from Sinai; He shone out from Seir. He appeared over the crest of Paran, and came, among myriad angels, at His right hand a law of fire, for them. And He embraces the tribes, their holy ones all in His hands; they are drawn after Your steps, and carry Your words. Moses gave us a Law, a heritage to the people of Jacob. There is a King in Yeshurun, as the heads of the people are gathered, the tribes of Israel together. "May Reuben live; let him not die, nor be left slight in number." And this to Judah: he said, "Heed, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him home to his people. His arms alone need fight for him; You are his Support against his foes."
