places were not allowed to go up the LORD's altar in Jerusalem, but only to eat matzot among their brethren.

English

The king commanded all the people, saying: "Observe the Pesaḥ in honor of the LORD your God, as prescribed in this Book of the Covenant. For the Pesaḥ had not been observed [with such ceremony] since the days of the judges who judged Israel, nor throughout the times of all of the kings of Israel or the kings of Judea. Only in the eighteenth year of King Josiah was the Pesaḥ observed so, in honor of the LORD in Jerusalem. Moreover, those who divined by a ghost or a familiar spirit, and the idols and the graven images and all the detestable things which had ever been seen in the land of Judea and Jerusalem were also destroyed by King Josiah, to uphold the covenant prescribed in the scroll which Ḥilkiyahu the priest had found in the Temple. And like him there was no king before him, who returned to the LORD with all his heart and all his soul and all his might, following all that was written in the Torah of Moses; and none like him came after.

TORAH READING FOR THE FIRST DAY OF ḤOL HAMO'ED PESAḤ

If the third day of Pesaḥ falls on Shabbat, the Reading for Shabbat Ḥol HaMo'ed is read (page 1188). In Israel, the Torah portion of the first day of Ḥol HaMo'ed is that of the second day of Yom Tov (page 1180).

You are going out today, in the month of Aviv. *When the LORD brings you to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Hivites and the Jebusites as He swore to your ancestors, giving you a land flowing with milk and honey, you must observe this rite in this month.
