young male goat as a sin-offering. All of this is besides for the daily burnt-offering, which is brought with its flour-offering and its wine offering. All of these shall be offered to the Lord on your festivals; they are to be brought besides for other offerings that should be brought on the festivals, such as offerings brought because of vows or pledges that you made throughout the year, as well as your burnt-offerings, your flour-offerings, your wine offerings, and your peace-offerings. HAFTARAH FOR SIMCHAT TORAH

After reading the conclusion of the Torah, where we read of the passing of Moses, we go on to read, in the Haftarah, about the beginning of Joshua's leadership of the Jewish Nation. God speaks to Joshua and commands him regarding his task to lead the people across the Jordan River, into the Land of Israel.

It was after the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, and the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' attendant, saying: My servant Moses has died and now you shall take his place and lead the Jewish Nation. Arise and continue the mission that Moses started, cross this Jordan River, you and this entire nation, and travel to the land that I am giving to them—to the Children of Israel. Every place upon which the soles of your feet will tread I will give to you, and you will have the strength needed to conquer it, as I have spoken to Moses. Your boundaries will be from the desert of Tzin in the southeast and the Lebanon forest to the great Euphrates river in the northeast, which includes the entire land of the Hittites, to the great Mediterranean Sea, which is in the direction where the sun sets—the west. No man will stand against you all the days of your life. I will be with you just as I was with Moses; I will not weaken My support of you nor will I abandon you. Be strong and courageous in leading this nation, for you will give this nation their inheritance in the land that I have sworn to their ancestors to give them. You must also be very strong and courageous to keep and to perform all of the commandments in accordance with the Torah that My servant Moses has commanded you.
