מֵרְשׁוּת מְרוֹמָם, עַל כָּל
בְּרָכָה וְשִׁירָה.
נוֹרָא, עַל כָּל תְּהִלָּה וְזִמְרָה.
חֲכַם לֵבָב, וְאַמִּיץ כֹּחַ, וּגְבוּרָה.
וּמוֹשֵׁל עוֹלָם, אֲדוֹן כָּל יְצִירָה.
וּמֵרְשׁוּת, כְּבוּדָה בַּת מֶלֶךְ,
פְּנִימָה עֲצוּרָה. רֵאשִׁית קִנְיָנוֹ,
אַלְפַּיִם אֲצוּרָה. בָּרָה תְמִימָה,
מְשִׁיבַת נֶפֶשׁ, וּמַחֲזִירָה. יְשֻׁרוּן
נְתָנָהּ מוֹרָשָׁה, לַעָבְדָהּ
וּלְשָׁמְרָהּ. מְלַמְּדֶיהָ גְּאוֹנֵי יַעֲקֹב,
לְפָתְחָהּ וּלְסָגְרָהּ. כְּלִיל הוֹד
נָשִׂיא, מַרְבֶּה הַמִּשְׂרָה. יוֹשְׁבֵי
עַל מִדִּין, מְשִׁיבֵי מִלְחָמָה
שָׁעְרָה. רָאשֵׁי יְשִׁיבוֹת, רָאשֵׁי
גּוֹלָה פְּזוּרָה. וּמֵרְשׁוּת, חֲבוּרַת
צֶדֶק, עֵדָה הַמְאֻשָּׁרָה. זְקֵנִים
וּנְעָרִים, בְּכָל שׁוּרָה וְשׁוּרָה. קְבוּצִים פֹּה
הַיּוֹם, לְשִׂמְחַת תּוֹרָה. וְנֶעֱצָרִים, לְסַיֵּם
וּלְהַחֵל, בְּגִיל וּבְמוֹרָא. אוֹתָהּ מְחַבְּבִים, כְּיוֹם
נְתִינָתָהּ בְּהַדְרָהּ. מְסַלְסְלִים בָּהּ כַּחֲדָשָׁה,
וְלֹא כִּישָׁנָה שֶׁעָבָרָה. צְמֵאִים לִמְצֹא וּלְהִתְעַנֵּג,
מִזִּיו יָקְרָהּ. מִשִּׂמְחַת לֵב, וָעֶצֶב מְסִירָהּ.
תַּנְחוּמֶיהָ יְשַׁעַשְׁעוּ נַפְשָׁם, בָּהּ לְהִתְפָּאֲרָה.
וְהוֹגִים בְּמִקְרָא וְהַגָּדָה, בְּמִשְׁנָה וּגְמָרָא.
רָצִים וּמְבִיאִים טַפָּם, לְבֵית הָעֲתִירָה.
וְעוֹשִׂים גַּם מַעֲשִׂים, בְּאַזְהָרָה. לָכֵן גָּדוֹל
שְׂכָרָם, מֵאֵת הַגְּבוּרָה. עַל רֹאשָׁם, שִׂמְחַת
עוֹלָם, קְשׁוּרָה. תְּאֵבִים לִרְאוֹת, בִּנְיַן בֵּית
הַבְּחִירָה. וּבְכֵן נִסְכַּמְתִּי, דַּעַת כֻּלָּם, לְבָרְרָהּ.
בָּחוּר, הֲרִימוֹתִי מֵעָם, תּוֹךְ הַחֲבוּרָה. מְצָאתִיו
לֵב נָבוֹן, לְהַסְבִּירָהּ. צֶדֶק וָחֶסֶד, רוֹדֵף בְּאֹרַח
יְשָׁרָה. וְנִשְּׂאוֹ לִבּוֹ, וּנְדָבָה רוּחוֹ, לְהִתְעוֹרְרָהּ.
תְּחִלָּה וְרִאשׁוֹן, הֱיוֹת, לְהַתְחִיל הַתּוֹרָה.
וְעַתָּה, קוּם רַבִּי (פְּלוֹנִי בֶּן פְּלוֹנִי) עֲמֹד
לְהִתְאַזְּרָהּ. בֹּא וְהִתְיַצֵּב, וַעֲמֹד לִימִינִי וּקְרָא.
מַעֲשֵׂה בְרֵאשִׁית, לִכְבוֹד צוּר בְּרָא. עַל זֹאת,
מַתְכִּיפִין, הַתְחָלָה לְהַשְׁלָמָה, בִּתְדִירָה. עַד
שֶׁלֹּא יִרְגַּל בְּעַם זוֹ, לְשָׁקְרָהּ. יַעַן נַעֲשֵׂית
רִאשׁוֹן, לַמִּצְוָה גְּמוּרָה. מַה רַב טוּבְךָ,
וּמַשְׂכֻּרְתְּךָ יְתֵרָה. טוֹב עַיִן תְּבֹרַךְ, בִּנְדָבָתְךָ
מִלֵּעָצֵרָה. וּמִבִּרְכוֹת בּוֹרַאֲךָ תְּבֹרַךְ, יָדְךָ
מִלְּקַצְּרָהּ. בַּעֲבוּר, שֶׁכָּל הַמְכַבֵּד תּוֹרָה
בִּצְפִירָה. יְהִי גּוּפוֹ מְכֻבָּד, בְּכֹחַ לְהִתְאַשְּׁרָה.
מַהֵר עֲמֹד עֲמֹד עֲמֹד רַבִּי (פְּלוֹנִי בֶּן פְּלוֹנִי)

<b>With the permission</b> of God, <b>Who is higher than all blessing and song, awesomely</b> exalted <b>above all praise and melody, wise and mighty in power and strength, Ruler of the world, Master of all creation. And with the permission</b> of the Torah, which, before it was given, was like <b>the glorious daughter of a King kept hidden</b> within—<b>the first of all</b> His <b>possessions, treasured for two thousand</b> years before the world was created, <b>pure and perfect, reviving the soul and restoring it</b>—given to the Jewish Nation, which is called <b>Jeshurun, as a heritage to fulfill and observe it. And with the permission of those who learn the</b> Torah, the sages <b>of the Children of Israel, to begin it and to conclude it; and of his esteemed excellency, the leader</b> of the Jewish Nation, who has <b>great authority; and of those who sit in judgment,</b> preventing and turning back quarrels by guiding people through the gate <b>of justice; and of the heads of the Yeshivot; and of</b> the leaders of <b>the exiled and scattered</b> Jewish Nation. <b>And with the permission of this</b> righteous <b>group,</b> this congregation that is fortunate to serve God, <b>old and young of every level, who are gathered here today for the rejoicing of the Torah and remain</b> here <b>to conclude and to begin</b> anew, <b>in joy and reverence,</b> the reading of the Torah, <b>which they love as on the day it was given in glory. Cherishing it as something new and not as something old and past,</b> thirsting <b>to draw from and to enjoy the shining of its glory,</b> which <b>rejoices the heart and removes sadness. Its comforting</b> teachings <b>cheer the souls of those who are proud of it and learn Tanach, Midrash, Mishnah, and Gemara. They run and bring their children to the house of prayer; they perform</b> mitzvot and <b>encourage others also to perform</b> them. Therefore, <b>their reward from the mighty</b> God <b>is great, and everlasting joy is tied upon their head. They desire to see the rebuilding of the Holy Temple. I have hereby agreed to the opinion of all</b> the people present <b>to select this person; I have singled him out from among the people of this group. I have found him to have an intelligent heart,</b> able to clearly <b>explain</b> the <b>Torah. He pursues righteousness and kindness in an upright path</b> of good character. His <b>heart has been inspired and his dedicated spirit aroused to be the first to begin the reading of the Torah. Now, arise Rabbi (name) son of (father's name), rise and prepare</b> yourself; <b>come, take your place and stand at my right, and read the story of the creation of the</b> world, <b>in honor of the Maker who created it.</b> This is the reason why the beginning of the reading of the Torah always immediately follows <b>its completion:</b> in order that the Satan should not <b>falsely slander this nation</b> that they do not wish to begin the Torah again. <b>Since you were made to be the beginner of such a perfect mitzvah, how great will be your good and additional reward. Your kind eye should be blessed</b> that you should always have plenty, and your generosity shall never need <b>to be held back. You should be blessed from the blessings of your Creator</b> that the generous gifts <b>of your hand should not</b> need <b>to be reduced. For all who honor the Torah royally shall themselves be honored and have fortunate capabilities. Speedily arise, arise, arise, Rabbi (name) son of (father's name),</b> Chattan Bereishit Bara, <b>with the permission of this holy congregation, to bless the great and awesome God.
