your children with success, those who live in your midst. He makes sure that there is peace and safety within your borders. He takes care of you and gives you the best wheat to satisfy you. He sends forth His word to control the weather on Earth; the rain runs so quickly to follow His order. He gives us snow, as white as wool. He scatters frost like ashes over the ground on cold mornings. He throws His ice in chunks, making hail. Who can withstand the cold that God can create?1 But as soon as He wants to, He sends His order, and all the ice melts; He blows His warm wind and the waters flow again. Praise God because He revealed Himself and told His words of Torah to the Children of Jacob. He gave His commandments, some with reasons and some without reasons, to the Children of Israel. He didn't do this for any other nation; they don't know the commandments of His Torah. For giving us the wonderful gift of Torah, thank and praise the Lord.

All creations in the heavens should praise God

הַלְלוּיָהּ Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in the spiritual heights. All of His angels should praise Him. All of His creations throughout the universe should praise Him. The sun and moon should praise Him. All the shining stars should praise Him. The upper heavens and the waters—the clouds—that are above the lower heavens, should praise Him. All of these creations should praise the name of the Lord, because He commanded that they exist, and they were created with this command. He has set the creations in the sky to last forever, for all time; He gave them each a decree, a specific purpose, which will not be transgressed.

All creations on earth should praise God

When people see the wonders of nature on earth, they should praise the Lord from the earth. The big fish and all the other creatures that live in the depths of the ocean, the fire, hail, snow, and steam, the stormy winds that carry out His commands, the mountains and all the hills, the fruit trees and all the cedar trees, the wild animals and all the tame animals, the creeping animals and the birds that have wings—all of these natural wonders show God's greatness, and we should praise Him for them. Kings of the earth and all nations, rulers and all judges of the earth, young men as well as young women, old people together with young people should all praise the name of the Lord, because even His name is so lofty and holy that it is alone. Only its beauty is revealed on the earth and in the heavens. God will raise and increase the glory of the Jewish Nation, His people, and increase the praise of all of His devoted people, of the Children of Israel, the nation that is close to Him. Praise the Lord.

The Jewish Nation will praise God for the respect they receive from the nations

הַלְלוּיָהּ Praise the Lord. When the Redemption arrives, we will sing a new song of praise to the Lord, fitting for the new levels of greatness that will be revealed to us. At that time, God's praise will be sung by a community of devoted people. The nation, the Children of Israel, will rejoice in the fact that God is its Maker.2 God will return His Divine Presence to Jerusalem. The children of Zion, the Jewish Nation, will rejoice3 in the fact that God is their King. They will praise His name by dancing, and they will sing

Commentary

1 The "coldness" in this verse can be interpreted as a lack of excitement and enthusiasm toward Judaism. The verse asks, "Who can withstand the cold?" What can one do to overcome apathy? The next verse answers: The "warm wind" of prayer inspires a person toward Godliness and "melts" any coldness he may have.

2 The Hebrew word for "its Maker," בְּעֹשָׂיו, is related to the word עֹשֶׂי—the name of our physical world. God made this world because He desired to dwell in it—and He gave us the task of making it a suitable dwelling place for Him by doing good deeds and making it holy. When we do so, God becomes happy with the world (בְּעֹשָׂיו). This verse teaches us that we, too, should share in that happiness—"the Jewish Nation will rejoice."

3 The Hebrew word used here for "joy," יָגִילוּ, shares the root of the word גִּלוּי, "revelation." It refers to a type of joy that is expressed openly and revealed to others, which the Jewish Nation will experience in the era of the Redemption.
