THE COUNTING OF THE OMER

One counts the Omer nightly, from Pesach's second night through the night preceding Shavuot.

Preferably, one should count the Omer at nightfall, directly after Maariv. Yet whoever neglected this may still count it during any hour of the night. If he neglected to count by night, he should count by day, omitting the accompanying blessing.

Should someone neglect to count the Omer and the day has entirely elapsed, he must count on the nights that follow without a blessing. If he is uncertain whether he counted on the prior night, and he omitted counting by day, he may resume the count with a blessing.

Ahead of counting the Omer, one ought not start to eat (even a light meal) within half an hour preceding dusk.
