as a fortress. You are our Father. Because of Abraham, who was perfect in all his actions and was tested with ten trials, and when he saw the three angels coming to visit him, said, “let some water be fetched!” please save the nation that is as bright as the sun. Please help us; You are our Father. Because of Isaac, the precious and only son who was born to his father at the age of one hundred—at the Binding of Isaac he cried out, “Where is the sheep for the burnt-offering?” and when his servants dug wells, they told him, “We have found water—” please save the nation in exile, banished from their land. Please help us; You are our Father. Because of Jacob—who hurried to receive the blessings from Isaac, who was hated by Esau and put his hope in You, and miraculously caused his flocks to increase next to troughs of water by using sticks—please save the nation that is compared to a palm tree; just as a palm tree has a single, straight trunk, (unlike grape vines or other trees,) so the Jewish Nation’s heart is focused only on one thing—God.1 Please help us; You are our Father. Because of Levi—who was worthy to be the ancestor of Your Kohanim, who are decorated with ornaments like a bridegroom on his wedding day, and whose descendants did not complain when they were tested at Masah, at the waters of Merivah, when there was no water to drink—please save Jerusalem, the good mountain. Please help us; You are our Father. Because of Judah—who was raised high to be the master over his brothers and who ruled over his brothers, whose descendants are countless; it was prophesied that many kings would come from him, like water pouring from his buckets—please save us; not for our sake, but for Your sake. Please help us; You are our Father. Because
