The following is a song that was composed to be sung on the steps of the Holy Temple: I lift my eyes to the mountains, and I ask: From where will my help come? My help will come from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip. Your Guardian does not slumber and will always protect you. Indeed, God, the Guardian of the Children of Israel, does not slumber and does not sleep. The Lord is your guard; the Lord is your protective shade, Who is always at your right hand to protect you from danger. The heat of the sun will not harm you by day; neither will the coldness of the night—when the moon shines. The Lord will guard you from all evil; He will guard your soul. The Lord will guard you in all places—anywhere you go or come, and in all times—now and forever.
Say each of the following six paragraphs three times.

May God protect our souls while we sleep

God, Master of the worlds! You have created Your world in Your good will, exactly as it came up in your earliest thought. You created the heavens and all of the creations within them, the earth and everything that is on it, and You have created man on earth. You have blown into his nostrils a soul that gives life, so that he will be able to recognize Your greatness and glory. You give life to all living beings, because You are the Soul of all Souls and the life-force of all living beings. You are the Lord, my God, and I entrust into Your pure and trustworthy hand the three levels of my soul—Nefesh, Ruach, and Neshamah—so that You, Lord, my God, will purify them of every impurity and sickness that has become attached to them through
