Blessed are You, Lord, our God, King of the universe, Who, in His goodness, provides food for the entire world1 with graciousness, with kindness, and with mercy. He gives food to all of the world's creations, because His kindness lasts forever. Through His great goodness, which is always with us, we do not lack food, and may we never lack food. God gives the world food because of His great name; because He is the God Who provides food and livelihood to everyone. He does good to everyone and He prepares food for all His creations; for everything that He created, as it says in Psalms: You open Your hand and give enough food to satisfy the desires of every living thing. Blessed are You, Lord, Who provides food for everyone.

We thank God for everything He has given us

We thank You, Lord, our God, because You gave the Land of Israel to our ancestors as an inheritance to be passed down to us. It is a precious land; a good, wide, and open land. We also thank You, Lord, our God, for taking us out of the land of Egypt, for redeeming us from the house of slaves, for Your covenant, the circumcision, which You have made in our flesh, for Your Torah that You taught us, for Your commandments that You have made known to us, for the life, favor, and kindness that You have graciously given us, and for the food we eat, with which You always feed and support us, every day, at all times, and in every hour.

On Chanukah and Purim, say the following. If omitted, continue until page 183, and follow the instructions there.

Thank You for the miracles You did for our ancestors

In the days of Matityahu, the son of Yochanan the High Priest, who was from the Hasmonean family, and his sons—when the wicked Syrian-Greek empire, led by king Antiochus, rose up and took control over Your nation, the Children of Israel, enacting decrees to make the Jewish Nation forget Your Torah and turn them away from the decrees that You want them to keep—You, God, in Your great mercy, stood by the Jewish Nation and helped them in their time of difficulty. You fought their wars, defended their rights, and avenged the wrong done to them. You put the mighty Syrian-Greek army into the hand of the weak Jewish army, and the great Syrian-Greek army was defeated; You put their many soldiers into the hand of our few; You put the impure who fought against You, into the hand of the pure Jewish army; You put the wicked into the hand of the righteous; You put the sinners into the hand of those who occupy themselves with Your Torah. Through these great acts, You made a great and holy name for Yourself in Your world. And for Your nation, the Children of Israel, You brought about a great salvation and redemption; it is spoken about and praised to this very day. After they won the war, Your children, the Jewish Nation, entered the Holy Temple, cleaned out the idols that the Syrian-Greeks had put in Your Sanctuary, and purified Your Holy Temple. They lit candles of celebration in and around the courtyards of Your Holy Temple, and they instituted these eight days of Chanukah to give thanks and praise to Your great name.
