ORDER FOR PUTTING ON THE TALLIT

The Chabad custom is to don the tallit and tefillin before אֵיזֶהוּ מְקוֹמָן, page 22.
Stand with the folded tallit upon the right shoulder, the four tzitzit in front. Inspect the tzitzit to ensure they are not torn, while reciting what follows:
Chabad
bor'chi* nafshi es Adonoy, Adonoy Eloyhai godalto m'oyd, hoyd
v'hodor lovoshto: oyteh oyr kasalmoh, noyteh
shomayim* kayri-oh:
Unfold the tallit and spread it wide, kiss the upper edge, and swing it from where it is held before you until it hangs behind you. At this juncture, begin the blessing.
As you recite the blessing, set the tallit over the head and upper body, and keep in mind that God commanded us to wrap ourselves in it, as a reminder to perform all His commandments.
Chabad
boruch atoh Adonoy, Eloyheinu melech ho-oylom, asher kid'shonu
b'mitzvoysov, v'tzivonu l'hisateif b'tzitzis:
As the blessing concludes, collect the two right corners of the tallit, lift them up, and set them over the left shoulder; collect the two left corners and draw them to the left side of the chest. Thus all four tzitzit rest on the left side, two in front and two behind. See illustrations, page 639. The Chabad custom is to cover one's face—with the upper part of the tallit—only as far as the eyes, not as far as the mouth.
Stay enwrapped once the blessing is done, for the time it takes to walk four cubits (i.e., about three seconds), and recite what follows:
Chabad
mah yokor chasd'cho Eloyhim, uv'nei* Odom b'tzeil k'nofecho yechesoyun:
yirv'yun mideshen beisecho, v'nachal adonecho sashkeim: ki im'cho*
m'koyr chayim, b'oyr'cho* nireh oyr: m'shoych chasd'cho l'yoyd'-echo,*
v'tzidkos'cho* l'yishrei* leiv:
Keep the tallit draped over the head, shoulders, and back throughout the entire time of prayer.
