NISHMAT: THE SOUL OF EVERY LIVING THING

English
Every living soul offers praise to Your name, Adonai our God; You, our sovereign, are forever exalted by the spirit of all flesh. You are God from time's first instant through its last. We have no sovereign beside You to redeem and liberate us, to rescue and save us, to show us kindness and sustain us through every moment of anguish and distress; You alone are our sovereign. God of every age, God of every creature, master of every generation, extolled through praise without end, guiding the world in love and its creatures in compassion. Adonai neither sleeps nor slumbers, yet awakens those who sleep, stirs those who slumber, grants voice to those unable to speak, unbinds those held captive, upholds those who fall, and makes upright those bent over. You alone are the one we thank. If song filled our mouths as the sea is full, if our tongues sang without end like innumerable waves, if our lips offered boundless praise like the sky, if our eyes shone as the sun and the moon, if our arms spread heavenward like the wings of eagles, and if our feet were as fleet as deer, still we could not give full expression to our gratitude to You, Adonai our God and God of our ancestors, nor praise Your name for even a single one of the countless moments of kindness by which You have blessed us and our ancestors.
