Halleluyah! Praise God. How pleasing to sing to our God sweet and lovely words of praise. Adonai will restore Jerusalem, gather in Israel’s scattered people; the one who heals the broken of heart, and binds their wounds, the one who numbers the stars and gives a name to each of them is our mighty sovereign, boundlessly powerful. God’s designs cannot be recounted. Adonai grants courage to the humble and casts the wicked to the ground. Raise a cry of thanksgiving to Adonai, and with the lyre’s music sing to God who veils the heavens with clouds supplying rain for the earth, that grass may thrive on the hillsides—sustenance for cattle and for the raven’s crying nestlings. Triumphant chariots do not please God, nor is it the fighter’s strong arms that God desires. Adonai desires those who revere the Divine, those who wait upon God’s love and kindness. O Jerusalem, hymn the praises of Adonai; Zion, celebrate your God. For God has fortified the posts of your gates, blessed your children within, set peace at your borders, and sated you with the fat of the harvest. God sends the divine word to earth; how swiftly these commands are obeyed: snow heaps up like fleece, frost fans out like ash, hailstones are flung like crumbs—who could withstand the cold?—then word is sent for the ice to melt; winds stop blowing and water flows. God utters commands to Jacob, statutes and just decrees to the people Israel. No other nation has been so supplied; they have no knowledge of just decrees. Praise God, halleluyah!
