הַמְחַלֵּל אֶת הַתּוֹרָה, גּוּפוֹ מְחֻלָּל עַל הַבְּרִיּוֹת.

8 Rabi Yosei omer: Kol hamechabed et haTorah, gufo mechubad al habriyot. Vechol

English
8. Rabbi Yose said: One who honors the Torah will be honored by mankind. One who disgraces the Torah will be disgraced by mankind.

ט רַבִּי יִשְׁמָעֵאל בְּנוֹ אוֹמֵר: הַחוֹשֵׂךְ עַצְמוֹ מִן הַדִּין, פּוֹרֵק מִמֶּנּוּ אֵיבָה וְגָזֵל
וּשְׁבוּעַת שָׁוְא. וְהַגַּס לִבּוֹ בְּהוֹרָאָה, שׁוֹטֶה, רָשָׁע וְגַס רוּחַ.

9 Rabi Yishmael beno omer: Hachoshech atzmo min hadin, porek mimenu eivah vegazel
ushevuat shav. Vehagas libo behora'ah, shoteh, rasha vegas ruach.
English
9. Rabbi Yishmael his son said: One who avoids serving as a judge spares himself enmity, robbery and false swearing. One who is over-confident in giving decisions is foolish, wicked and arrogant.

י הוּא הָיָה אוֹמֵר: אַל תְּהִי דָן יְחִידִי, שֶׁאֵין דָּן יְחִידִי אֶלָּא אֶחָד. וְאַל תֹּאמַר
קַבְּלוּ דַעְתִּי, שֶׁהֵן רַשָּׁאִין וְלֹא אָתָּה.
Sephardi
10 Hu hayah omer: Al tehi dan yechidi, she'ein dan yechidi ela echad. Ve'al tomar
kablu da'ati, shehen rasha'in velo atah.
English
10. He used to say: Do not act as a judge alone, for none may judge alone except the One. Do not say “Accept my view”; for they are permitted, not you.

English
11. Rabbi Yonatan said: Whoever keeps the Torah when poor will eventually keep it in wealth. Whoever neglects the Torah when wealthy will eventually neglect it in poverty.

English
12. Rabbi Meir said: Limit your business activities and occupy yourself with Torah. Have humility before everyone. If you neglect the Torah, you will have many excuses to neglect it, but if you labor in the Torah, He has great reward to give you.

יג רַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר בֶּן יַעֲקֹב אוֹמֵר: הָעוֹשֶׂה מִצְוָה אַחַת, קוֹנֶה לוֹ פְּרַקְלִיט אֶחָד.
וְהָעוֹבֵר עֲבֵרָה אַחַת, קוֹנֶה לוֹ קָטֵגוֹר אֶחָד. תְּשׁוּבָה וּמַעֲשִׂים טוֹבִים, כִּתְרִיס
בִּפְנֵי הַפֻּרְעָנוּת.

Yod-Gimel Rabi Eliezer ben Yaakov omer: Ha'oseh mitzvah achat, koneh lo peraklit echad.
Veha'over aveirah achat, koneh lo kategor echad. Teshuvah uma'asim tovim, kitris
bifnei hapur'anut.
English
13. Rabbi Eliezer ben Jacob said: One who performs a single mitzva acquires for himself an advocate. One who commits a single transgression acquires for himself an accuser. Repentance and good deeds are a shield against punishment.

יד רַבִּי יוֹחָנָן הַסַּנְדְּלָר אוֹמֵר: כָּל כְּנֵסִיָּה שֶׁהִיא לְשֵׁם שָׁמַיִם, סוֹפָהּ לְהִתְקַיֵּם.
וְשֶׁאֵינָהּ לְשֵׁם שָׁמַיִם, אֵין סוֹפָהּ לְהִתְקַיֵּם.

Yod-Dalet Rabi Yochanan hasandlar omer: Kol kenesiyah shehi leshem Shamayim, sofah lehitkayem.
Veshe'einah leshem Shamayim, ein sofah lehitkayem.
English
14. Rabbi Yoḥanan the sandal maker said: Every gathering that meets for the sake of heaven will have an enduring effect. One that is not for the sake of heaven will not have an enduring effect.

chavercha kemora rabbach, umora rabbach kemora Shamayim.
English
15. Rabbi Elazar ben Shammua said: Let your student’s honor be as precious to you as your own; let your colleague’s honor be like the reverence due to your teacher; and let the reverence you have for your teacher be like the reverence due to Heaven.

16. Rabbi Judah said: Be careful when you study, for an inadvertent error in study is tantamount to an intentional sin.

English
17. Rabbi Shimon said: There are three crowns: the crown of Torah, the crown of priesthood, and the crown of kingship – but the crown of a good name surpasses them all.
