A song of ascents. I lift my eyes up to the hills; from where will my help come? My help comes from the LORD, Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot stumble; He who guards you does not slumber. See: the Guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. The LORD is your Guardian; the LORD is your Shade at your right hand. The sun will not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. ▸ The LORD will guard you from all harm; He will guard your life. The LORD will guard your going and coming, now and for evermore.

A song of ascents. Of David. I rejoiced when they said to me, “Let us go to the House of the LORD.” Our feet stood within your gates, Jerusalem: Jerusalem built as a city joined together. There the tribes went up, the tribes of the LORD – as a testimony to Israel – to give thanks to the name of the LORD. For there the thrones of justice are set, the thrones of the house of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you prosper. May there be peace within your ramparts, tranquility in your citadels.” ▸ For the sake of my brothers and my friends, I shall say, “Peace be within you.” For the sake of the House of the LORD our God, I shall seek your good.
Ps. 123

A song of ascents. To You, enthroned in heaven, I lift my eyes. As the eyes of slaves turn to their master’s hand, or the eyes of a slave-girl to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes are turned to the LORD our God, awaiting His favor. ▸ Show us favor, LORD, show us favor, for we have suffered more than enough contempt. Too long have we suffered the scorn of the complacent, the contempt of arrogant men.

A song of ascents. Of David. Had the LORD not been on our side – let Israel say it – had the LORD not been on our side when men rose up against us, they would have swallowed us alive when their anger raged against us. The waters would have engulfed us; the torrent would have swept over us; over us would have swept the raging waters. Blessed be the LORD who did not leave us as a prey for their teeth. ▸ We escaped like a bird from the fowler’s trap; the trap broke and we escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, Maker of heaven and earth.
