LOWERING THE HEAD

Say while sitting; in the presence of a Torah scroll say until "in sudden shame," leaning forward and resting one's head on the left arm.
II Sam. 24
Hebrew
וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִד אֶל־גָּד, צַר־לִי מְאֹד

Hebrew

English
Compassionate and gracious One, I have sinned before You. LORD, full of compassion, have compassion on me and accept my pleas.
Ps. 6

English
LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or chastise me in Your wrath. Be gracious to me, LORD, for I am weak. Heal me, LORD, for my bones are in agony. My soul is in anguish, and You, O LORD – how long? Turn, LORD, set my soul free; save me for the sake of Your love. For no one remembers You when he is dead. Who can praise You from the grave? I am weary with my sighing. Every night I drench my bed, I soak my couch with my tears. My eye grows dim from grief, worn out because of all my foes. Leave me, all you evildoers, for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping. The LORD has heard my pleas. The LORD will accept my prayer. All my enemies will be shamed and utterly dismayed. They will turn back in sudden shame.
Some substitute the following psalm for Psalm 6 above.
Ps. 25

English
Of David. It is to You, LORD, that I lift my soul. My God, it is in You I have trusted; do not let me be ashamed, do not let my enemies triumph over me. Let none of those whose hope is in You be ashamed; let it be those who betray for no reason who are shamed. Tell me Your way, LORD; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God who saves me – it is in You I have laid my hope day by day. Remember Your compassion, LORD, and Your loving-kindness, for they have been as long as the world has been. Do not recall the sins of my younger days, nor my rebellions; remember me by Your loving-kindness, for the sake of Your goodness, LORD. The LORD is good and is noble – and so He shows the right way to sinners. He leads humble people in judgment; He teaches humble people His way. All the LORD's ways are loving-kindness and truth, for those who guard His covenant and testimony. For Your own sake, LORD, forgive my iniquity, great as it is. Who holds the LORD in awe? He will be taught the right way to choose. His soul will dwell amid goodness, and his children will inherit the world. The LORD's guidance is for those who hold Him in awe; for them He will make His covenant known. My eyes are always upon the LORD, for He will take my feet out of the net. Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am alone and poor. Broaden out the straits of distress in my heart, and lift me out of my anguish. See my poverty and my burden, and lift the weight of all my sins. See my enemies, how many they are, and the violent hate with which they hate me. Protect my soul and save me; let me not be afraid: I seek refuge with You. Let innocence and nobility guard me, for I place my hope in You. God, redeem Israel from all their troubles.
