<text>1 Alternatively, "Bring back our rulers." This is a reference to the good and evil inclinations, which both attempt to seize control of a person's heart and "rule" over it. Each time a person does a good deed, the good inclination becomes the ruler and the evil inclination is subdued. During the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, the evil inclination of the Jewish Nation was not only subdued but entirely transformed, so that it encouraged every person to keep God's commandments, in line with the good inclination. In this blessing, we ask God to bring back and restore "our rulers" to the way they were then, during the revelation at Mount Sinai.</text>
