<english>For seven days you shall keep the Festival of Sukkot, commencing at nightfall prior to the fifteenth of Tishrei, the season when you customarily ingather the whole harvest from your threshing floor and from your wine vat against the winter months. And you shall be joyful at your festival, you, along with your son and daughter. See to it that your manservant and maidservant, and likewise the Levite, the convert, the orphan, the widow, and all needy folk who reside in your cities, possess sufficient provision for rejoicing. Seven days shall you keep the Festival of Sukkot unto the Lord, your God, Jerusalem—the site which the Lord will select, for the Lord, your God, will bless you through every crop of yours and through every labor of your hand, and you shall know only gladness. Thrice in a year, every male among you shall come into the presence of the Lord, your God, in the Holy Temple—the site which He will select for His name to dwell, on Pesach—the Festival of Matzot, on Shavuot's Festival, and on Sukkot's Festival; nor shall they come into the Lord's presence empty-handed. Every man is to present offerings in keeping with what his hand can afford to give, matching the portion of blessing which the Lord, your God, has bestowed upon you.</english>

<english>Though the Lord abides in His holy dwelling amid the heavens, the whole populace of the earth is silenced before Him, for He governs all things and none may speak against Him. What follows is the prayer uttered by the prophet Habakkuk over unwitting sins of the Jewish Nation generally, and over himself especially, inasmuch as he had protested to God concerning seeming injustices: Lord, I heard Your word concerning the exile soon to come, and I grew deeply afraid, for how shall the Jewish Nation endure so lengthy an exile? I entreat you, Lord, and I plead that throughout the years of exile, preserve alive and uphold the Jewish Nation—Your creation. Through the exile's years, make it known that even amid Your anger, You still remember to show mercy toward Your people, as You have promised. God came from Mount Se'ir in the south, having there proffered the Torah to Esau's descendants, and the Holy One issued from Mount Paran in might, having there proffered the Torah to Ishmael's descendants. Neither nation would consent to receive the Torah. Thereafter, God approached Mount Sinai to bestow the Torah upon the Jewish Nation; His majesty overspread the heavens, and His glory suffused the earth. The brilliant light that day shone as brightly as the light that was during the seven days of creation. Beams of light streamed from God's hand toward His nation, and His hidden strength was there disclosed to the Jewish Nation. Death by plague went before Him to strike down the Canaanites; flame went forth to consume them at His feet—as the Jewish Nation drew near with the Holy Ark at their forefront. Once the Jewish Nation had entered the Land of Israel, the Holy Ark stayed in the city of Gilgal fourteen years until the land was measured and allotted among the tribes. God destroyed the nations dwelling in the land as though merely gazing upon them. The ancient mountains—the kings of Canaan—were dashed to pieces, the everlasting hills—the princes of Canaan—in humility bowed for the ways of the world are His; God determines whom to exalt and whom to bring low. I beheld the tents of Cushan, king of Aram, as they grew faint, for God sent Otniel son of Knaz to deliver the Jews from them. When Midian's nation rose against the Jews, God sent Gideon to deliver them, and He made the curtains of the pavilions of the land of Midian to tremble. Was God wroth with the rivers? Was Your wrath against the rivers when You made the Jordan's waters cease their downward flow? Did Your fury burn against the Sea of Reeds when You made its waters part? Surely not. You did this only as though to ride upon Your steeds with Your chariots to deliver the Jewish Nation in their hour of need. You unveiled Your mighty bow to battle the Canaanites so as to fulfill the oaths You swore unto our forefathers</english>
