<english>this very day. Moses was one hundred and twenty years of age at his death. Even following his passing, his eyes did not grow dim and the moisture did not abandon his body. The Children of Israel wept and lamented for Moses upon the plains of Moab throughout thirty days, and the weeping days, the mourning for Moses, then ceased. Joshua the son of Nun abounded in the spirit of wisdom, Moses having laid his hands upon him, thereby conveying the leadership to him. And the Children of Israel heeded him, doing as the Lord had commanded Moses. And never did another prophet arise in Israel as mighty as Moses, whom the Lord knew—addressed him—as though face to face. This is evidenced by all the wonders and signs that the Lord dispatched him to carry out in the land of Egypt, while the Jews were in bondage there, to Pharaoh and to his entire land and all his servants. And by his mighty hand by which he received the two Tablets, together with the miracles he worked within the great and awesome wilderness. And through the shattering of the Tablets, which Moses carried out in the sight of all the Children of Israel, for which God lauded him highly.</english>

<english>With the consent of God, Who is loftier than every blessing and song, awesomely exalted above every praise and melody, mighty and wise in strength and power, Master of all creation, Ruler of the world. And with the leave of the Torah, which, prior to being given, resembled the glorious daughter of a King kept concealed within—the foremost of all His possessions, cherished for two thousand years prior to the world's creation, perfect and pure, restoring the soul and reviving it—bestowed upon the Jewish Nation, which is called Jeshurun, as a heritage to observe and fulfill it. And with the permission of those who study the Torah, the sages of the Children of Israel, to open it and to close it; and of his honored excellency, the leader of the Jewish Nation, who has ample authority; and of those seated in judgment, averting and turning back disputes by leading them through the gate of justice; and of those heading the Yeshivot; and of the leaders of the scattered and exiled Jewish Nation. And with the consent of this righteous assembly, this congregation that is privileged to serve God, young and old of every rank, who have assembled here today for the rejoicing of the Torah and stay here to begin and to conclude anew, in reverence and joy, the Torah reading, which they hold dear as upon the day it was given in glory. Prizing it as something fresh rather than as something aged and bygone, thirsting to draw upon and to savor the radiance of its glory, which gladdens the heart and drives away sadness. Its consoling teachings gladden the souls of those who take pride in it and study Gemara, Mishnah, Midrash, and Tanach. They hurry and bring their children to the house of prayer; they perform mitzvot and urge others also to perform them. Therefore, their recompense from the mighty God is great, and everlasting joy is bound upon their head. They yearn to witness the rebuilding of the Holy Temple. I have hereby consented to the view of all the people present to choose this person; I have distinguished him from among those in this group. I discovered in him an intelligent heart, able to clearly explain the Torah. He pursues kindness and righteousness along an upright path of good character. His heart has been stirred and his devoted spirit awakened to be first in beginning the reading of the Torah. At this moment, arise Rabbi (name) son of (father's name), rise and ready yourself; approach, occupy your place and stand at my right, and recite the account of the creation of the world, in honor of the Maker who fashioned it. This explains why the start of reading the Torah always immediately follows its conclusion: lest the Satan falsely defame this nation claiming they have no wish to begin the Torah again. Since you were appointed to be the one who begins such a perfect mitzvah, how abundant will be your good and additional reward. Your generous eye should be blessed that you should always have abundance, and your generosity shall never need to be withheld. You ought to be blessed from the blessings of your Creator that the generous gifts of your hand ought not need to be diminished. For whoever honors the Torah in a royal manner shall themselves receive honor and possess fortunate capabilities. Speedily arise, arise, arise, Rabbi (name) son of (father's name), Chattan Bereishit Bara, with the consent of this holy congregation, to offer blessing to the great and awesome God. All will swiftly answer Amen after you. Arise Rabbi (name) son of (father's name), Chattan Bereishit Bara.</english>
