<english>tribe whom You proved at Massah, when the remainder of the people murmured over water, yet Levi's tribe did not, and whom You strove with at the waters of Merivah when, yet again, the people murmured, yet Levi's tribe remained true to You and uttered no complaint. Following the Golden Calf transgression, each member of Levi's tribe declared concerning his mother's father and concerning his mother who merited punishment for Golden Calf worship, "I regard him not as my kinsman," and owing to his devotion to God, he recognized not his brother born of his mother nor did he acknowledge his daughter's son as kin. For they observed Your charge against serving other gods and they observed Your covenant. Hence, they deserve instructing Your statutes to the Children of Jacob and Your Torah unto the Children of Israel. The Kohanim, drawn from Levi's tribe, shall set incense before You in Your Holy Temple, and they shall set offerings that are wholly consumed upon Your altar. Lord, bless the holdings of Levi's tribe and gladly receive the labor of his hands in the Holy Temple. Cut down his foes and those who array themselves to battle them, that they may never be able to rise against them evermore. Concerning the tribe of Benjamin, he said: The Lord's beloved Temple shall rest safely within his allotment in the Land of Israel. The Divine Presence shall overshadow his land and guard it all day—forever—and the Divine Presence shall abide in the Temple, which will stand between the mountains of Benjamin's territory, as though they were between his shoulders.</english>

<english>Concerning the tribe of Joseph, he said: His allotment of land is most favored by the Lord with all the finest yield that springs from heaven's dew and from the water that ascends from the depths beneath to feed the soil; with the finest yield that ripens through sun-light; and with all the finest yield that the earth sends forth each month through moon-light; with the first of the fruit's ripening from the early mountains in his domain, which give ripe fruit swiftly; with the finest yield of the hills, which give produce even amid scarcity of rain; and with the finest yield of the land and its fullness; may his land be favored by the favor of the Lord, Who appeared to Moses at the thorn-bush. May this benediction rest upon Joseph's head—upon the crown of the head of him who was set apart from his brethren when they sold him. To his majestic descendant Joshua, who is likened in might to an ox and gleams with glory: May his glory be radiant as horns—just as the horns of the Re'em, famed for their beauty. By these he will gore every nation that dwells at all ends of the Land of Israel, as one. These nations denote the myriads Joshua, scion of Efraim, will wipe out, and the thousands of Midyanites Gideon, scion of Manasseh, will wipe out.</english>

<english>Concerning the tribes of Zebulun and Issachar, who formed a partnership: Zebulun would sustain Issachar, enabling Issachar's uninterrupted Torah study, while Zebulun would share in part of the reward, he said: Rejoice, Zebulun, in your success when you go forth from home to trade, and rejoice, Issachar, while you study Torah in your tents. By reckoning the new months and leap years, the tribe of Issachar will cause the Jewish Nation to assemble at the Temple Mount on each festival at the proper hour; there, they will present offerings of righteousness to God. Issachar's tribe will possess leisure to study and to set the calendar, for Zebulun and Issachar both will be maintained by the plenty of riches that the seas will yield for them and by the treasures buried in the sand. Concerning the tribe of Gad, he said: Blessed is God, Who enlarges Gad's territory. Gad dwells at the frontier and watches over the Land of Israel as a lion; with a single stroke of the sword, he will sever the arm of the foe as well as the head. The tribe of Gad saw that the finest course for himself would be to seize the first portion of the land destined for conquest, for he knew that there, inside that domain, the burial plot of Moses, the lawgiver, would lie hidden. The tribe came at the head of the people to go forth to war; thereby they acted righteous before the Lord and justly with Israel, since upon this condition they received this land.</english>

<english>Concerning the tribe of Dan, he said: Dan likewise dwells on the frontier and watches it like a young lion; his land is fed from the rivers of Bashan. Concerning the tribe of Naftali, he said: Naftali's land satisfies every craving of its dwellers and it abounds with the Lord's blessing. Naftali, seize the territory northward and westward of the Sea of Galilee and a strip of ground south of the sea. Concerning the tribe of Asher, he said: May Asher, who, while the Jewish Nation sojourned in the desert, was blessed with more descendants than all other tribes, continue to be blessed with sons. Such will be his store of olive oil that he will amply furnish every tribe with oil and, therefore, be pleasing to his brothers, and he will have enough remaining to dip his feet in oil. Now speaking to the whole Jewish Nation, Moses said: Each tribe's warriors, stationed at the borders of every city, serve as your locks to bar your foes, and they are strong as iron and copper. May your later years prove good for you like your days of youth. Know this, Jeshurun, there is no force upon earth that is like God, Who rides the heavens to your aid, and in His majesty, He rides the skies.</english>
