<english>wholly purifies us of our transgressions once we turn in repentance, yet He does not purify us should we refuse to turn. He recalls the iniquities of fathers and, should descendants persist along ancestral paths, visits recompense upon their offspring and the offspring of their offspring through the third and fourth generations for those same transgressions too. When Moses perceived that the Divine Presence stood ready to depart, he hastened, bent his head to the earth, fell upon his face, and spoke: If I have at this moment found grace in Your eyes, my Lord, then I pray that my Lord's Divine Presence travel in our company throughout our going, for You have already pardoned us. And should they, because they are an obstinate people, offend before You once more, may You pardon our willful and unwitting offenses, and establish us as Your everlasting nation and heritage. God consented, declaring: I shall cut a covenant upon this: Before all your people I shall work wonders never before formed upon the whole earth or among any of the nations—only among the Jewish Nation shall the Divine Presence abide. Every people among whom you reside shall behold the Lord's doing—for it is awesome—even that which I shall presently perform on your behalf.</english>

<english>Observe these precepts that I am enjoining upon you this day: see, once you come into the Land of Israel, I shall expel ahead of you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivvites, and the Jebusites, whereas the seventh people, the Girgashites, shall depart the country of their own will. Upon that event, guard yourselves, lest you cut a pact with the inhabitants of the country into which you enter. Permit them not to stay there, lest it become a perilous snare in your midst, for these nations' folk will entrap you into forsaking the paths of God. Instead you must tear down their altars, smash their pillars, and fell the trees that they revere. For you shall not prostrate yourselves before any other god, since the Lord, Whose name is "the zealous One," is a zealous God to take recompense from those who prove faithless to Him. I charge you not to cut a pact with the inhabitants of the country permitting them to stay, for they will keep on going after their gods and offering victims to their gods, and they will cry out invitations that you befriend and join them. In time, you will come to partake of their idolatrous offering, until you will at last take their daughters as wives for your sons. Those daughters will wander after their gods and they will likewise draw your sons away after their gods. As yet another safeguard against idolatry, do not fashion any cast or formed images for yourself, even should you mean not to serve them.</english>

<english>You shall observe the Festival of Matzot; for seven days you shall consume solely unleavened foods and matzot, as I enjoined you to keep at the appointed season of the month when the grain starts to mature—the 15th of Nissan. Always this feast shall fall in springtime, for it was in the month of Nissan, in the springtime, that you departed from Egypt. When God slew every firstborn son and every firstborn male beast of the Egyptians, He passed over the Jewish dwellings and preserved the firstborn of the Jewish Nation. Hence God charges you: Each firstborn son who is first to open the womb of his mother shall belong to Me, and you must redeem him from a Kohen at thirty days of age. Likewise, whenever any of your animals, whether an ox or a sheep shall bear a male, if that young was the first to open its mother's womb, it shall belong to Me as well, and is to be delivered to a Kohen. Among animals that are not kosher, you shall redeem the male firstborn donkey through exchange for a lamb, which you shall hand to the Kohen; if you redeem it not, you shall strike off its head, bringing upon you monetary loss—even as you meant to inflict monetary loss upon the Kohen. Each son of yours who is firstborn to his mother, you shall redeem from whatsoever Kohen for five shekels (about 100 grams of pure silver). When the Jewish Nation ascends to the Holy Temple to keep the festivals, none shall come into My presence empty handed; instead they shall present a beast as a burnt-offering. Six days you shall labor, and on the seventh day you shall cease by performing no labor. You shall cease from plowing and from reaping. And you shall appoint for yourself a Festival of Weeks (Shavuot), wherein you shall present the two loaves of bread, that being the earliest offering that is presented from the fresh wheat harvest in the Holy Temple. You shall likewise keep the Festival of the Gathering of your produce (Sukkot), which occurs at the season when the new year opens (Tishrei). Three times each year at the named festivals of Pesach, Shavuot, and Sukkot, every male among you shall present himself before the Master of the universe, the Lord, Who is the God of Israel, through ascent to the holy Temple in Jerusalem. For I shall expel every nation from before you and enlarge your borders in the Land of Israel, which will leave many of you dwelling far from the Holy Temple. No man among the other nations will covet your land and plot to seize it when you go up, these three times of the year, to appear before the Lord, your God. Thus you may proceed to the Holy Temple without anxiety. Neither slaughter nor sprinkle the blood of My Pesach-offering while you still hold chametz (leaven) in your keeping. On the fourteenth of Nissan the Pesach-offering shall be presented, and those portions burned upon the altar must not stay away from the altar through the night, until morning of the fifteenth. From among the seven kinds of produce with which your Land of Israel was blessed—wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates—you shall present some of the earliest that start to mature to the house of the Lord, your God, as a present to the Kohanim. You may not boil a kid in its mother's milk, nor any flesh in any milk, nor may you partake of any such blend.</english>
