<english>your children with prosperity, those who dwell in your midst. He ensures that there is peace and security within your borders. He looks after you and grants you the finest wheat to sate you. He sends forth His word to govern the weather on Earth; the rain hastens so swiftly to follow His command. He grants us snow, white like wool. He strews frost like ashes over the ground on chill mornings. He hurls His ice in pieces, making hail. Who can endure the cold that God can create?1 Yet the moment He wishes, He sends His command, and all the ice thaws; He blows His warm wind and the waters stream again. Praise God for He revealed Himself and declared His words of Torah to the Children of Jacob. He gave His commandments, a portion with reasons and a portion without reasons, unto the Children of Israel. He granted this to no other nation; they know not the commandments of His Torah. For granting us the wondrous gift of Torah, thank and praise the Lord.</english>

<english>הַלְלוּיָהּ Extol the Lord. Extol the Lord from the heavens; extol Him in the spiritual heights. All of His angels ought to laud Him. All of His works throughout the universe ought to laud Him. The sun and moon ought to laud Him. All the gleaming stars ought to laud Him. The upper heavens and the waters—the clouds—that stand above the lower heavens, ought to laud Him. All of these works ought to laud the name of the Lord, for He commanded that they exist, and they came into being with this command. He has fixed the creations in the sky to endure forever, for all time; He assigned them each a decree, an appointed purpose, which will not be violated.</english>

<english>When people behold the marvels of nature on earth, they ought to laud the Lord from the earth. The great fish and every other creature dwelling in the ocean's depths, the flame, hail, snow, and vapor, the tempestuous winds that fulfill His commands, the mountains and all the highlands, the fruit trees and all the cedars, the wild beasts and all the domestic beasts, the crawling creatures and the birds that possess wings—all of these natural marvels display God's greatness, and we ought to praise Him for them. Monarchs of the earth and all nations, princes and all judges of the earth, youths as well as maidens, elders together with the young ought all to laud the name of the Lord, for even His name stands so exalted and holy that it stands alone. Only its splendor is made known upon the earth and in the heavens. God will lift and enlarge the glory of the Jewish Nation, His people, and magnify the acclaim of all His faithful ones, of the Children of Israel, the people that stands near to Him. <text>1 The "coldness" in this verse can be interpreted as a lack of excitement and enthusiasm toward Judaism. The verse asks, "Who can withstand the cold?" What can one do to overcome apathy? The next verse answers: The "warm wind" of prayer inspires a person toward Godliness and "melts" any coldness he may have.</text>

<text>2 The Hebrew word for "its Maker," בְּעֹשָׂיו, is related to the word עֹשֶׂי—the name of our physical world. God made this world because He desired to dwell in it—and He gave us the task of making it a suitable dwelling place for Him by doing good deeds and making it holy. When we do so, God becomes happy with the world (בְּעֹשָׂיו). This verse teaches us that we, too, should share in that happiness—"the Jewish Nation will rejoice."</text>

<text>3 The Hebrew word used here for "joy," יָגִילוּ, shares the root of the word גִּלוּי, "revelation." It refers to a type of joy that is expressed openly and revealed to others, which the Jewish Nation will experience in the era of the Redemption.</text>
