Extol the Lord. I shall extol the Lord. I shall extol the Lord throughout my days; I shall chant unto my God so long as I live.1 Place no trust in eminent, mighty persons, for they remain merely mortal creatures, who do not possess the capacity to grant deliverance. Once someone dies and his spirit departs from him, he is laid in the grave and goes back to the soil. That very day, every scheme of his comes to naught. Thus, blessed is one whose deliverer is the God of Jacob; blessed is one whose hope rests in the Lord his God. God is the Maker of heaven, of earth, and of the sea, and of all that is within them. He upholds His word in faithfulness forever.</english>

<english>He veils the heaven with clouds. He readies rain for the earth and causes grass to sprout on mountains. By this means, He supplies food for beasts dwelling upon the heights, which would otherwise find nothing to eat. God even nourishes young, helpless ravens abandoned by their parents, when they cry out for food. He does not delight in those who depend on the might of a horse rather than depending on Him, to rescue them in battle. He likewise does not seek a person who depends on the might of his legs. The Lord seeks those who revere Him, people who yearn for His kindness and confide in Him. Give thanks to the Lord, people who dwell in the restored Jerusalem. Laud your God, people of Zion (Jerusalem), for He has fortified the bolts of your cities' gates and guarded you from your foes. He has blessed</english>

<text>1 An alternative translation: "I will sing to my God with my other." This "other" is a reference to the body, which is considered secondary to the soul. In this verse we are declaring our commitment to praise God with both our souls and our bodies.</text>

<text>2 God helps not just those who are physically hungry, but also those who are spiritually hungry for Godliness. Rather than allow our spiritual hunger to become a source of weakness or despair, God "satisfies" us by transforming our hunger into a source of positive motivation. This gives us increased energy to serve Him and connect to Him.</text>

<text>3 The "scattered" Jewish Nation in this verse symbolize the sparks of holiness that are scattered in this physical world. It is our task to "elevate" these sparks by using mundane creations for holy purposes. If we look for opportunities to do so, God will respond by assisting us—He will collect the sparks of holiness and "bring them in" for us to elevate.</text>

<text>4 The literal translation of this phrase is, "There is no number to His understanding." As understanding cannot be measured in numbers, this verse requires an alternative interpretation: There is no limit to the number of levels on which we can understand God—ranging from the most basic to the most profound.</text>
