<english>מִזְמוֹר What follows is a song sung by one who presents a thanksgiving-offering in gratitude to God for a miracle He has done. When God works a miracle, all the peoples of the earth sing to the Lord with joy. Serve the Lord and keep His commandments happily. Approach Him singing songs of joy. Know that the Lord is God and that He will repay us for our good deeds. Know that He made us and we belong to Him; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. God tends us as a shepherd tends his flock. Come, pass through His gates, the portals of the Holy Temple, with a thanksgiving-offering. Present an offering in thanks to God for His miracles. Come to His courtyards, the courts of the Holy Temple, with praise. Offer thanks to Him and bless His name, for the Lord is good. He governs the universe with His everlasting kindness and with His trustworthiness; He is faithful to govern the world by the laws of nature, making the sun rise and set each day and so on, for all generations.</english>

<english>יְהִי May the Lord's glory endure forever.1 May the Lord ever rejoice in His works of creation. Blessed be the Lord's name by every created being, henceforth and forever. From those who dwell in the east, where the sun rises, to those who dwell in the west, where it sets—the name of the Lord is praised by them all. The Lord stands exalted above all nations. God's glory stands above the heavens. Lord, Your name is eternal. Lord, Your name is recalled forever, through every generation. In heaven the Lord has established His throne,2 and His sovereignty rules over all. When Redemption comes, the heavens shall be glad, the earth shall rejoice, and nations will declare, "The Lord has always been King!" The Lord reigns as King, the Lord has been ever King, and the Lord shall ever remain King, for all time. The Lord remains King for all time. Nations have vanished from earth, God's land. The Lord has nullified the wicked designs of the nations who sought to injure the Jewish Nation; He has wrecked the wicked schemes of the nations. There are many musings within a person's heart—one may suppose he knows best, yet only the counsel of the Lord endures forever. The Lord's counsel stands forever;3 the thoughts and plans within His heart are fulfilled through every generation. For He spoke, and the universe came into existence; He commanded that it should be, and it has remained in existence forever.4</english>

<text>1 Alternatively, "to the world." It is our hope that God's "glory"—His Divine Presence—be revealed to the world for all to see. The latter part of this verse, "May God be happy," hints at the way we can achieve this revelation: by serving God with a spirit of happiness, in a way that emulates His own happiness.</text>

<text>2 A throne allows a king to lower himself and sit "eye to eye" with his subjects. God's "throne" symbolizes the Torah. By "lowering" His infinite wisdom and expressing it in the Torah, in terms and concepts that the human mind can understand, God made it possible for us to relate to Him and connect to Him.</text>

<text>3 A person's thoughts and plans may change rapidly, depending on the circumstances. A single idea can become "many thoughts," and even opposing thoughts, in a matter of moments. God's thoughts, by contrast, are eternal and unchanging—they "last forever."</text>
