Set us upright, like a tree which is planted beside running streams. Deliver us from every plague and illness. Enfold us in flawless love. Cause us to delight in the Holy Temple, the House of Prayer. Guide us by still waters always. Endow us with wisdom and insight. Array us in majesty and grandeur. Crown us with that unique diadem—Torah. Guide us upon even highways. Set us upon the upright way, the way of righteousness. In grace grant us mercy and compassion. "text": "1 This prayer is explained as a request for rain. The Talmud teaches that the world is judged for the coming year's rainfall on Sukkot. This is the reason for all the prayers for rain. During Sukkot, however, rain is a negative sign—that God does not desire our presence with Him in the Sukkah. Therefore we wait for the last day of Sukkot to request it.",
